Event: 2016 UNEP FI Global Roundtable and Annual General Meeting [viewed]

The 2016 UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) Global Roundtable and Annual General Meeting will be hosted by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with support from the UAE Central Bank. The events will bring together finance stakeholders from various sectors, including government, civil society and the UN, to discuss the role of the global financial sector in addressing the sustainable development and climate change agendas. Topics to be addressed during the two-day Global Roundtable, linked to select sustainable development goals (SDGs), include: climate change mitigation and decarbonizing finance (SDG 13); resilient and sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11); clean energy and water (SDGs 6 and 7); and financing small and medium-sized enterprises (SDG 8). Plenary sessions are planned on: green islamic finance; policy and regulatory frameworks for a sustainable financial system; and sustainable finance innovations.

CSW 60 Opens with Calls for Gender Equality to Guide Action on SDGs [viewed]

csw6014 March 2016: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development provides a framework for action to transform gender relations and achieve gender equality and women's empowerment, making the world a better place for all, UN leaders said at the opening session of the 60th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). CSW 60 is expected to discuss implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and take stock of progress in eliminating violence against women and girls.

WHO, UNISDR Call for Integrating Health in DRR [viewed]

unisdr-who11 March 2016: The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have called on national disaster management agencies to include health emergencies in their preparedness and response plans alongside earthquakes, floods and storms. The call was made during the International Conference on the Implementation of the Health Aspects of the Sendai Framework for DRR 2015-2030, which brought together over 300 representatives from 54 governments, the health and disaster risk fields, and international and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Preparations Underway for INDC Implementation [viewed]

Partnership on Mitigation and MRV9 March 2016: The International Partnership on Mitigation and MRV has reported that several developing countries, including Mexico and Viet Nam, have started planning for the implementation of their intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs) under the UNFCCC, with support from their developed country partners. In addition, the Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) has been working closely with developing country policymakers, most recently in Latin America, to identify ways to "convert INDCs into action."

LAC Countries Take Action Towards Ending Hunger by 2025 [viewed]

fao_headquarters3 March 2016: The 34th Session of the Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) adopted a number of measures to achieve the region's goal to eradicate hunger by 2025, five years ahead of the deadline agreed in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Goal 2 is End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture, and the Goal's first target calls to, "by 2030, end hunger and ensure access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations, including infants, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round."
