7 October 2009: The President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Kanayo Nwanze, attended the IMF/World Bank annual meeting held from 6-7 October 2009, in Istanbul, Turkey, to underscore the pivotal role of smallholder agriculture in addressing climate change, food security and poverty.
15 September 2009: The 97th meeting of the Executive Board of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), held from 14-15 September 2009, in Rome, Italy, approved grants and loans totalling US$217.82 million for projects in 15 countries.

14 July 2009: Five top UN officials have added their names to an online petition urging world leaders to “Seal the Deal” on an ambitious new climate change agreement at the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP 15) in Copenhagen, Denmark, this December.
26 May 2009: A collaborative study by the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) suggests that increased demand for biofuels and, to a lesser extent, increased land values through emerging carbon markets, are among the factors that drive international land acquisition deals.

12 February 2009: The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is preparing for its 32rd Governing Council meeting, to be held from 18-19 February 2009, in Rome, Italy. The meeting will feature three roundtables on challenges for smallholder farmers focusing on: unpredictable markets and high price volatility; the risks and opportunities arising out of the growing demand for land; and research and innovation needs in the context of a rapidly changing climate.
21 January 2009: Ides Willebois, on behalf of Leonard Båge, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), delivered a statement to the German Bundestag outlining IFAD's perspective on the risks and opportunities of agro-biotechnology and other agricultural technologies.
17 November 2008: The UN World Food Programme (WFP) and the
International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), supported by the
Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation, are launching a programme to increase access
by farmers in developing countries to weather-indexed insurance schemes.
15 October 2008: The newly released Gender in Agriculture Sourcebook investigates the situation of women in the rural workforce and how some of the challenges they face can be overcome. Developed in cooperation between the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Bank, the sourcebook is intended to be used both as a reference and as a tool book for agricultural development. It also addresses cross-cutting issues, including gender dimensions of climate change and bioenergy.
