20 November 2009: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has announced the establishment of an online tool, the "Global Framework on Aviation and Alternative Fuels" (GRAAF), which will be used to communicate best practices, future ICAO member State activities, and other information regarding the development and implementation of alternative fuels for aviation worldwide.

3 June 2009: The Group on International Aviation and Climate Change (GIACC) of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has released a report outlining steps to address climate change and aviation. The report recommends a global aspirational goal of 2% annual improvement in fuel efficiency of aircraft involved in international aviation.
