6 June 2010: Raymond Benjamin, Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), spoke at the International Air Transport Authority (IATA) Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit, which took place from 6-8 June 2010, in Berlin, Germany.
20 May 2010: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published submissions (FCCC/SBSTA/2010/MISC.5) from the Secretariats of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) containing information on emissions from fuel used for international aviation and maritime transport.
14 May 2010: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) held a Colloquium on Aviation and Climate Change from 11-14 May 2010, at ICAO headquarters in Montreal, Canada.
6 May 2010: The Third Conference on International Air Transport Cooperation took place in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from 6-7 May 2010. In an opening address, Raymond Benjamin, Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), spoke about the three components of an efficient global air transport sector: safety, security and sustainability.
7 April 2010: Roberto Kobeh González, President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), addressed the first High Level Conference on Safety and Environment, held in the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador.
The fifth World Urban Forum (WUF-5), which took place from 22-26 March 2010, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, under the theme “The Right to the City: Bridging the Urban Divide,” was hosted by the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) and the Government of Brazil.
The second Africa Carbon Forum, which was held from 3-5 March 2010, in Nairobi, Kenya, sought to help build on growing interest in the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) in Africa, and concluded with expectations for a boost in Africa's share of the global carbon market.
19 February 2010: The International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection's (CAEP) met at ICAO headquarters from 1-12 February 2010, in Montreal, Canada, and announced the ICAO's commitment to the development of a carbon dioxide standard for commercial aircraft by 2013. This effort would result in the first global fuel-efficiency standard for any industry sector.
The third of the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) Environmental Colloquiums will take place at ICAO headquarters in Montreal, Canada, and will focus on the relationship between climate change and aviation. The Colloquium plans to introduce participants to developments in ICAO's environmental work and prepare them for high-level decision making at the ICAO Assembly in September 2010.
21 December 2009: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has announced its intention to continue plans for reducing aviation emissions despite the lack of an agreement on bunker fuels at the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference in December 2009.
