IAEA Expects Nuclear Power Account for 15% of GHG Emissions Reductions by 2050 [viewed]

6 December 2012: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has released a new report, titled "Climate Change and Nuclear Power 2012," which assesses the role nuclear power can play in addressing both climate change and the global energy challenge. The report highlights that nuclear energy could account for 15% of total greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions in electricity generation by 2050.

UNISDR, UNESCO Convene Retreat on Post-Hyogo Disaster Framework [viewed]

19 November 2012: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) and the UN Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) convened a two-day UN High-Level Retreat to initiate work on a UN strategic plan for disaster risk reduction. Event: International Symposium on Isotopes in Hydrology, Marine Ecosystems and Climate Change Studies [viewed]

Organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and hosted by the Government of the Principality of Monaco, this event aims to share recent research on the use of isotopic techniques in hydrology, climate change studies, marine and terrestrial ecosystems. Specific topics for discussion will include: the role of isotopes in understanding and modelling climate change, marine ecosystems and the water cycle; carbon dioxide sequestration and related aspects of the carbon cycle, such as ocean acidification; isotopes in groundwater flow modelling for large aquifers; and analytical methods and instrumentation for the application of isotopes in environmental, climate and hydrological studies. The symposium is aimed at professionals in fields related to the issues being discussed, as well as government officials and policymakers.

IAEA Participates in Launch of New Nuclear Energy Management School [viewed]
