Event: Global Conference on Agriculture, Food Security and Climate Change [viewed]

This meeting is organized by the Government of the Netherlands in cooperation with the Governments of Ethiopia, Norway and New Zealand, the World Bank and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO). The meeting aims to provide concrete actions to link the implementation of agriculture-related investments, policies, and measures with long-term carbon emission reductions and adaptation benefits. It will address new and additional and innovative ways of financing the roadmap for action and aims to contribute to the UNFCCC climate talks in Cancun, Mexico. The conference will include a ministerial roundtable.

Interim REDD+ Expert Meeting Highlighted in UN-REDD July Newsletter [viewed]

Highlighted is a recent meeting of the Interim REDD+ Partnership, which was established in May at the Oslo Climate and Forest conference.

FAO, IFAD Publish Report on Bioenergy from Jatropha [viewed]

FAO/UN-REDD Draft Protocol on Terrestrial Carbon Open for Review [viewed]

21 July 2010: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), as part of the UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (UN-REDD Programme), is developing a project to systematically analyze literature on methods used to measure and assess terrestrial carbon stocks, using an evidence-based approach.

UN-REDD Approves US$8.7 Million for REDD+ Readiness [viewed]

2 July 2010: The UN-REDD Programme's Policy Board approved an additional US$8.7 million to fund global activities aimed at supporting national REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, conservation, sustainable management of forests, and enhancement of carbon stocks) readiness.

FAO Releases Study on Forestry's Impact on GHGs [viewed]

June 2010: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has released a forestry paper titled "Impact of the global forest industry on atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHGs)," which traces the value chain of forest products (roundwood, processed wood products, and pulp and paper) and calculates a net contribution of 467 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year from the forest product chain.

UN-REDD, UNFF Present at Commonwealth Forestry Conference [viewed]

Event: Global Expert Workshop on Biodiversity Benefits of Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries [viewed]

This workshop is convened by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), in collaboration with the UN-REDD Programme and with the financial support of the Government of Germany. Its purpose is to support the efforts of parties in addressing reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD) in the framework of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in a way that contributes to the implementation of the CBD programme of work on forest biodiversity.
