August 2012: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) released the “Forest Products Annual Market Review, 2011-2012,” which finds that wood energy constitutes the primary renewable energy source in the UNECE region, and discusses the role of reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD) mechanisms in carbon markets.

22 August 2012: The UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) has published a paper, titled “Crop Yield Response to Water,” which compiles tools for assessing crops' yield response to water, with the aim of increasing water efficiency. These tools are designed to: determine the effects of water shortages on crops production; investigate impacts of climate change on crop yield; compare various water allocation plans; optimize irrigation schedules; and create strategies to increase water productivity and savings.

23 August 2012: The UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (UN‐REDD Programme) has released the August edition of its newsletter, which reports on the launch by Ecuador of its national UN-REDD programme and a workshop held in Indonesia to solicit the views of stakeholders on the potential co-benefits of REDD+.

The ninth meeting of the UN-REDD Policy Programme Board is scheduled to take place in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, on 26-27 October 2012. Pre-meetings to be held on 25 October. The Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) Participants Committee meeting will take place in the same location 21-23 October, and an optional field visit for participants of both meetings will take place on 24 October.
