The 2015 International Day of Forests will be celebrated under the theme 'Forests / Climate / Change' in order to build greater awareness of the important role of forests and trees in sequestering and storing carbon. The theme aims to highlight how forests and climate change are linked and to rally global support for greater action and change. A video for the day is available along with key messages, posters and banners.

UNFF Launches Website to Support Financing for SFM [viewed]

UnffJanuary 2015: The UN Forum on Forests (UNFF) launched a website to support the ongoing Facilitative Process adopted to assist developing countries in identifying and accessing financing for sustainable forest management (SFM). The Facilitative Process is based on the tenants of a bottom-up approach that takes into account the multiple uses and values of forests as well as the range of ecosystem services they provide.

Event: Forest Day 6: Shaping the Global Agenda for Forests and Climate [viewed]

Forest Day 6 will take place on the sidelines of the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to the UNFCCC. It seeks to inform UNFCCC's global agenda and forest stakeholders on ways to move forward with agreements on REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, and the role of conservation, sustainable use of forests and enhancement of carbon stock) reached at COP 17 in Durban, South Africa, to produce social and environmental benefits, good governance, long-term financing and the integration of forests into adaptation strategies on the ground. Forest Day is hosted by members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) and coordinated by the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) on behalf of and in collaboration with other CPF members.
