Responses to Climate Change Bear Major Development Implications: Monterrey Review Process Draft Outcome Document Released [viewed]

Draft Doha Outcome Document on Reviewing the Implementation of the Monterrey Consensus 30 July 2008: The President of the UN General Assembly issued a draft outcome

document for the Monterrey Consensus Review Conference where countries would

recognize that responses to the climate change problem have “major development

implications” and “commit to respond to the additional financial requirements

that meet these new challenges with appropriate, concrete international

cooperation measures and policies.” The Review Conference, to be held in Doha,

Qatar, from November 29 to 2 December 2008, would also highlight that efforts

to address climate change should “promote increased trade in environmental

goods and not result in environmentally-based trade distortions.”

UN International Youth Day to Focus on Climate Change [viewed]

2008: This year's theme for the UN International Youth Day (IYD), which is

celebrated on 12 August, will be “Youth

and Climate Change: Time for Action.” IYD aims to provide the

opportunity to recognize the potential of youth, celebrate their achievements,

and bring together all stakeholders to ensure that young people are included in

decision-making at all levels.

development, and the advancement of women,' Rachel Mayanja, Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on

Gender Issues and Advancement of Women, noted the particular vulnerability of

women to climate change and the food crisis.

reconvened, on Monday, 21 July, to conclude the plenary meeting on the global

food and energy crisis that began on 18 July 2008. A number of countries,

including Cape Verde and Syria, stressed the interlinkages between the food,

energy and climate challenges.

IPCC Technical Paper on Climate Change and Water [viewed]

Technical Paper is the sixth paper in the IPCC Technical Paper series and was

produced in response to a proposal by the Secretariat of the World Climate

Programme – Water and the International Steering Committee of the Dialogue on

Water and Climate at the 19th Plenary Session of the IPCC, which took place in

Geneva, Switzerland in April 2002.
