Event: UNFF 10 [viewed]

The tenth session of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF 10) will assess the overall progress made on the implementation of the Non-Legally Binding Instrument on All Types of Forests and achievement of its four Global Objectives on Forests. The theme for UNFF 10 is forests and economic development. Agenda items will include: forest products and services; national forest programmes and other sectoral policies and strategies; reducing risks and impacts of disasters; and benefits of forests and trees to urban communities.

UNFF 9 Adopts Resolution on Forests for People, Livelihoods and Poverty Eradication [viewed]

4 February 2011: The ninth session of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF 9), which focused on the theme “Forests for people, livelihoods and poverty eradication,” convened from 24 January-4 February 2011, at UN Headquarters in New York, US, and brought together over 700 participants to address: the International Year of Forests (Forests 2011); forests for people, livelihoods and poverty eradication; and means of implementation for sustainable forest management (SFM).

Based on Resolution 61/193, adopted by the UN General Assembly in December 2006, 2011 has been declared International Year of Forests (IYF). The UN Forum on Forests will serve as the focal point for the implementation of the International Year of Forests, in collaboration with governments, the Collaborative Partnership on Forests and international, regional and subregional organizations and processes as well as relevant major groups.
