precopsocial9 November 2014: The social preparatory meeting to the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCCC - or Social PreCOP - comprised a two-day gathering of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and social movements, a social and ministerial dialogue, and a ministerial segment. The Social PreCOP was held under the theme ‘Changing the System Not the Climate' and hosted by Government of Venezuela.

LEG, NAP-GSP Workshop Supports Development of NAPs in Pacific SIDS [viewed]

nap-unfccc7 November 2014: Under the auspices of the UNFCCC Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG), nine Pacific Island countries gathered for a five-day workshop aimed at launching a process for medium- and long-term adaptation planning. The meeting was held in collaboration with UN Development Programme (UNDP)/UN Environment Programme (UNEP) National Adaptation Plan Global Support Programme (NAP-GSP), which supports developing countries in creating and implementing NAPs.

UNFCCC Publishes Country Views on REDD+ Safeguard Information Systems [viewed]

UNFCCC6 November 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has compiled submissions received from developing country Parties on their views regarding information systems to track the implementation of safeguards for REDD+ (Decision 1/CP.16, Appendix I). The Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) asked parties to comment on their experiences, lessons learned and challenges in developing such systems.

INF.17); and an annual report on the technical review of GHG inventories and other information reported by UNFCCC Annex I Parties that are also Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (FCCC/SBSTA/2014/
INF.18).

Event: Green Climate Fund High-Level Pledging Conference [viewed]

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) will hold a high-level pledging conference on 20 November, in Berlin, Germany. The conference will be co-hosted by Germany's Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Gerd Müller, and Environment Minister Barbara Hendricks. The pledging conference is open to all governments intersted in contributing to the GCF, and high-level representatives are expected from more than 20 countries. Germany is hosting the event in accordance with a pledge made during the Fund's Initial Resource Mobilization process. Capitalization of the GCF will mark a milestone for the negotiations at the UN Climate Change Conference, scheduled to take place from 1-12 December 2014, in Lima, Peru.

Discussions Begin on Modalities, Substance of Post-2015 Negotiations [viewed]

unga694 November 2014: Macharia Kamau, Permanent Representative of Kenya, and David Donoghue, Permanent Representative of Ireland, convened the first informal meeting of the plenary on the intergovernmental negotiations on the post-2015 development agenda. After a second informal meeting on 10 November, the co-facilitators will be able to plan next steps in the process, Kamau said.

UNFCCC Synthesizes Work of the Forum on Response Measures [viewed]

UNFCCC4 November 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has prepared a note synthesizing the work of the forum on the impact of the implementation of response measures. The document (FCCC/SB/2014/INF.4) is based on views, information and review of the work of the forum provided by parties and relevant organizations. The 40th sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) requested the Secretariat to prepare the synthesis paper for consideration at SBSTA 41 and SBI 41.
