Niue Submits INDC [viewed]

niue25 November 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that Niue has formally submitted its intended nationally determined contribution (INDC), bringing the total number of Parties that have made their submissions to 178. The submission expresses Niue's intent to achieve a 38% share of total electricity generation from renewable energy by 2020. Subject to additional international assistance, the country could accomplish 80% renewables by 2025, according to the INDC.

UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee Reports on Technology Needs Assessments [viewed]

UNFCCC23 November 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the 'Guidance on enhanced implementation of the results of technology needs assessments: interim report by the Technology Executive Committee' (FCCC/SB/2015/INF.3). The report contains recommended improvements to the existing guidance on technology needs assessment (TNA), technology action plans (TAPs) and project ideas for the enhanced implementation of priority technologies for development and climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Event: Young and Future Generations Day at COP 21 [viewed]

Young and Future Generations Day will comprise youth-led side events, workshops and activities and a continuous stream of creative actions that prove young people are key players in reaching innovative and ambitious solutions to climate change. A lead event on intergenerational equity, jointly organized by the UN Joint Framework Initiative on Children, Youth and Climate Change (YOUNGO), and the UNFCCC Secretariat in collaboration with the UN Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth, will provide an opportunity to engage youth delegates from around the world with key players on the intergovernmental climate change arena. Other events include interviews with COP 21 participants and side events related to youth.

Event: Education Day at COP 21 [viewed]

Education Day at COP 21 will comprise a series of events that promote changes in lifestyles, attitudes and behavior needed to foster sustainable development and to address climate change. Events during the thematic Day will provide examples of good practice and lessons learned in climate education, including at a ministerial event in climate change education and sustainable development organized by the French Government, followed by a series of mini-events, a UN side event on formal climate change education, and a CCE side event on non-formal climate change education.

Event: COP 21 NAMA Fair [viewed]

Organized by the UNFCCC Secretariat, the Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMA) Fair will present examples of NAMAs that support low-emissions development and inspire further transformational action on the ground in developing countries. The Fair will provide a platform for mutual learning and exchange of experiences, as well as an opportunity meet with public and private international organizations actively engaged in supporting low-emissions development in developing countries. The Fair is organized in partnership with various organizations, including the UN Development Programme (UNDP).

Event: Farmers' Day at COP 21 [viewed]

Co-organized by the World Farmers' Organization (WFO) and the UNFCCC Secretariat, Farmers' Day will bring together participants from farming groups, researchers and civil society to discuss agriculture in light of the negotiations during the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP 21). The program includes panel discussions on the following issues:partnerships to improve agricultural resilience and productivity in a changing climate; partnering to scale-up climate-smart agriculture in Africa: from policy to tangible impact; and agroecology as a viable solution to create climate resilience and a sustainable food system.

Standing Committee on Finance Reports to COP 21 [viewed]

UNFCCC20 November 2015: The Standing Committee on Finance (SCF) has submitted information on the outcomes of its work in 2015 to the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP) in advance of its 21st session. The COP will consider the report under its agenda item on matters relating to finance. The report (FCCC/CP/2015/8) covers, inter alia, the meetings, forums and virtual forum of the SCF, the development of a working paper on coherence and coordination of forest finance, and work on the biennial assessment and overview of climate finance flows.

UNFCCC Workshop Report on Enhancing Capacity Building Published [viewed]

UNFCCC20 November 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a report (FCCC/SBI/2015/INF.16) on the workshop on potential ways to enhance capacity-building activities in preparation for the 43rd session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 43). The report will be considered by the SBI under its agenda item on capacity building under the Convention and the Kyoto Protocol.
