UNFCCC6 May 2013: The Eastern European Group has designated Marcin Korolec, Minister of Environment, Poland, as the President-Designate for the 19th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 19) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 9th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP 9), which will be held from 11-22 November 2013, in Warsaw, Poland.

Event: Caring for Climate Business Forum: Innovation. Ambition. Collaboration [viewed]

The inaugural Caring for Climate Business Forum – Innovation, Ambition, Collaboration – will meet from 19-20 November 2013, in Warsaw, Poland, on the sidelines of the 19th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 19) to the UN Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). For the first time, the Global Compact, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UNFCCC Secretariat are organizing this invitation-only event, which will showcase the contributions that business and investors can make towards climate action, while providing a high-level platform for exchange and collaboration with policymakers. More specifically, the Forum aims to: bring greater scale to business innovation on climate change; further encourage business and governments to raise ambition on climate policies; and encourage collaboration among business, the UN, governments and other stakeholders. New activities, resources, commitments and public-private partnerships are expected to be announced during the Forum. In addition to plenary sessions and thematic action workshops, a high-level meeting on 20 November will convene to: discuss a compendium of climate practices, innovations, collaborations and commitments to action across key climate change themes; and put forward recommendations for government actions that would help bring greater scale and quality to corporate climate leadership globally. It is expected the Forum will become an annual event.

Event: First Meeting of the CTCN Advisory Board [viewed]

The Advisory Board of the CTCN will meet from 14-15 May 2013, in Copenaghen, Denmark. The meeting is expected to discuss, among other issues: strategies, issues and mandated deliverables for the upcoming meetings of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies and Conference of the Parties (COP); its programme of work for 2013-2014; and vision of the members on the work to be carried out by the Advisory Board.

UNFCCC7 May 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a submission from Nepal, on behalf of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), on the implications of decisions 2/CMP.7 (land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF)), 3/CMP.7 (emissions trading and the project-based mechanisms), 4/CMP.7 (various methodological issues), and 5/CMP.7 (potential consequences), on the previous decisions on methodological issues related to the Kyoto Protocol (FCCC/SBSTA/2013/MISC.1/Add.2).

Experts Discuss the Enhancement of the UNFCCC Review Process [viewed]

UNFCCC2 May 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the outcome of the 10th Meeting of Inventory Lead Reviewers on the Options to Improve the Cost-effectiveness, Efficiency and Practicality of the review process (FCCC/SBSTA/2013/INF.2). Participants noted that the implementation of the existing review process of national communications and national greenhouse gases (GHG) inventories is resource intensive, and that the newly-established international assessment and review (IAR) process for developed countries, to be launched in early 2014, will impose a substantial increase of work.
