Montenegro, Mauritania, Ghana Submit INDCs [viewed]

ghana_mautitania23 September 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that Montenegro, Mauritania and Ghana have formally submitted their intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs), bringing the total number of Parties to have done so to 68. In their submissions, Montenegro, Mauritania and Ghana commit, respectively, to reduce emissions by 30%, 22.3% conditionally, and 45% conditionally, all by 2030. Montenegro's target is in comparison to 1990 levels, and the latter two use a business as usual (BAU) reference level.

UNFCCC Reports on Gender Composition [viewed]

UNFCCC21 September 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a 'Report on Gender Composition' (FCCC/CP/2015/6), which enables Parties to track their progress towards meeting the goal of gender balance in advancing gender-sensitive climate policy. The report was published as a result of the Conference of the Parties (COP) decision that additional efforts need to be made to improve women's participation in bodies established under the Convention and its Kyoto Protocol, and its adoption of a goal of gender balance.

Equator Prize Announces 2015 Winners [viewed]

equatorinitiative21 September 2015: The 21 winning initiatives of the 2015 Equator Prize include a indigenous group in Brazil that inspired the film 'Avatar'; a conservation group in Indonesia that is saving sea turtles; a movement for pygmy rights in the Democratic Republic of Congo; and a community-based organization in the poorest region of Afghanistan that is restoring areas affected by conflict and creating new jobs. The prize is the "flagship programme" of the Equator Initiative, a partnership that brings together the UN, governments, civil society, businesses and grassroots organizations to advance sustainable development solutions.

GCF Forwards Annual Report to UNFCCC [viewed]

green-climate-fund-new21 September 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the report (FCCC/CP/2015/3) submitted by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) to the Conference of the Parties (COP). The report informs the COP of the GCF's implementation of policies, programme priorities and eligibility criteria provided by the COP, and relates the extent to which COP guidance has been adhered to by the GCF Board (GCFB).

UNFCCC Reports on 2014-2015 Budget Performance [viewed]

UNFCCC21 September 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has received €36.6 million, or 77.2% of the total core budget indicative contributions expected for 2014-2015 during the first 18 months of the biennium, according to a note (FCCC/SBI/2015/13) by the Executive Secretary. The document, which details the Secretariat's budget performance, also indicates that approximately 75.8% of the 2014-2015 core budget had been spent as of 30 June 2015.

UNFCCC Reports on 3rd Dialogue on Education and Training [viewed]

UNFCCC21 September 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a summary report (FCCC/SBI/2015/15) of the 3rd Dialogue on Article 6 of the Convention (education and training), held during the 42nd session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI), from 2-3 June 2015. The Dialogue was attended by representatives of governments, and of intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), as well as by experts, practitioners and stakeholders. Participants shared experiences and exchanged ideas, best practices and lessons learned regarding climate change education and training, and related international cooperation.

Event: First Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Warsaw International Mechanism [viewed]

This first meeting of the Executive Committee of the UNFCCC Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage Associated with Climate Change Impacts is expected to discuss: vision and expectations of the Committee; rules of procedure of the Committee; two-year workplace of the Committee and the delivery of activities; arrangements for the operationalization of the Mechanism; and the annual report of the Executive Committee. The Loss and Damage Mechanism was established at the 19th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 19) in Warsaw, Poland, in 2013.

Comoros, Grenada and Equatorial Guinea Submit INDCs [viewed]

Kyoto Protocol Compliance Committee Report Released [viewed]

UNFCCC18 September 2015: The UNFCCC has published the 10th annual report of the Compliance Committee to the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP) (FCCC/KP/CMP/2015/3). The report summarizes the facilitative branch's consideration of information in review reports and recommendations, with a view to advising Parties and facilitating implementation of the Kyoto Protocol.

Fourth Durban Forum on Capacity-building Summary Released [viewed]

UNFCCC18 September 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a summary report of the fourth Durban Forum on Capacity-building (FCCC/SBI/2015/14), which focused on the information and capacity-building services available to developing countries for the preparation of intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs). The Forum also addressed the advancement and coordination of capacity building in developing countries through various bodies created under the Convention and the Kyoto Protocol.
