UNFCCC Secretariat Releases UK's GHG Inventory [viewed]

© UNFCCC30 April 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the individual review of the 2007 and 2008 greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory submissions of the UK (FCCC/ARR/2008/GBR). The expert review team (ERT) finds the inventory to be generally in line with the Revised 1996 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Guidelines, the IPCC good practice guidance and the IPCC good practice guidance for land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF).

UNFCCC Secretariat Releases Proposed Programme Budget for 2010-2011 [viewed]

© UNFCCC30 April 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the programme budget for the biennium 2010–2011 (FCCC/SBI/2009/2), proposed by the Executive Secretary for consideration by the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) at its 30th session, adoption by the Conference of the Parties at its 15th session and endorsement by the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol at its fifth session.

The workshop was convened under the Nairobi Work Programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change (NWP).

UNFF8 Adopts Decision on Forests in a Changing Environment [viewed]

Purnama gaveled UNFF8 to a close at 05h53m on Saturday, 2 May 20094 May 2009: Climate change featured heavily on the agenda of the eighth session of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF8), which convened from 20 April-1 May 2009, at UN Headquarters in New York, US. After a late night session on the final day of negotiations, UNFF8 delegates adopted a resolution on forests in a changing environment, which encourages member States to, inter alia, strengthen the implementation of sustainable forest management (SFM) in addressing the challenges faced by forests due to climate change, forest degradation, and biodiversity and forest cover loss.

UNFCCC Secretariat Releases Australia's Submission on Privileges and Immunities [viewed]

© UNFCCC29 April 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released an addendum (FCCC/SBI/2009/MISC.5/Add.1) to a document on appropriate treaty arrangements relating to privileges and immunities for individuals serving on constituted bodies established under the Kyoto Protocol (FCCC/SBI/2009/MISC.5). The document contains a submission from Australia stating that it shares other parties' concerns with the limited immunities accessible to persons serving on Kyoto Protocol bodies, particularly immunity from legal action.

© UNFCCC28 April 2009: The UNFCC Secretariat has received a number of submissions from parties, dating from 7 April, on negotiating text for consideration at the sixth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the UNFCCC (AWG-LCA 6), which will convene from 1-12 June 2009, in Bonn, Germany, in conjunction with the 30th session of the UNFCCC subsidiary bodies and the eighth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 8).

UN Participates in Preparatory Meeting of Major Economies Forum [viewed]

28 April 2009: The US Government hosted the first preparatory meeting of the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate from 27-28 April 2009, in Washington, DC, US. The event was attended by Leaders' representatives and other officials from 17 major economies, as well as the UN and Denmark, as host of the December 2009 Copenhagen Climate Change Conference.

UNFCCC Executive Secretary Addresses Informal Ministerial Meeting [viewed]

26 April 2009: Yvo de Boer, Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC, addressed an informal gathering of Ministers of Finance and Development in Washington, DC, US. On the climate change talks in Copenhagen, he said that “policy clarity will provide the necessary impetus for up-coming investments to be directed into environmentally sound technologies, rather than infrastructure that will soon be obsolete.”
