UNEP DTU, CTCN Showcase Adaptation Monitoring and Evaluation Good Practices [viewed]

unep-ctcn7 September 2015: A publication launched by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) DTU Partnership (UDP) and the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) showcases practices that have been developed in monitoring and evaluating climate change adaptation. The report, titled ‘Good Practices in Designing and Implementing National Monitoring Systems for Adaptation to Climate Change,' compiles lessons learned from building and implementing indicator systems.

Algeria, Colombia Submit INDCs [viewed]

algeria_colombia7 September 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that Algeria and Colombia are the 58th and 59th Parties, respectively, to formally submit their intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs). Algeria's INDC includes a target of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 7-22% below a business as usual (BAU) reference level by 2030. In its INDC, Colombia puts forward a unilateral, unconditional GHG reduction target of 20% compared to BAU by 2030, as well as a conditional 30% reduction target.

ADP Co-Chairs to Produce Negotiating Text [viewed]

adp2_104 September 2015: The tenth part of the second session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP 2-10) was the penultimate of several meetings under the UNFCCC in preparation for the Paris Climate Change Conference scheduled to take place in France in November-December 2015. The Paris Conference is mandated to adopt “a protocol, another legal instrument or an agreed outcome with legal force under the Convention applicable to all parties,” which is to come into force in 2020.

DESA Publishes Special Studies on Post-2015 Summit Dialogues [viewed]

post2015_summitAugust 2015: Background papers have been made available for each of the six themes for the interactive dialogues during the UN summit for the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda. The six themes were agreed during the fifth session of the intergovernmental negotiation process on the post-2015 development agenda, on 22 May 2015. The papers, also listed as special studies, are published on the Sustainable Development Knowledge Platform managed by the Division for Sustainable Development at the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA).

adp2-1031 August 2015: The tenth part of the second session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP 2-10) has opened in Bonn, Germany. As mandated by ADP 2-9, the ADP Co-Chairs have issued a scenario note for the meeting (ADP.2015.4.InformalNote) that includes a consolidated version of the formal Geneva negotiating text, as well as a document containing elements for a draft decision on ADP workstream 2 (pre-2020 ambition).

Dominican Republic Submits INDC [viewed]

dominican republic flag18 August 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that the Dominican Republic is the 57th Party to formally submit its intended nationally determined contribution (INDC), which announces a conditional greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction target of 25% below 2010 levels by 2030. The INDC is communicated in the context of the country's vision for 2030, as supported by its 2030 National Development Strategy (NDS).

Event: Latin American and Caribbean Carbon Forum 2015 [viewed]

The 2015 Latin American and Caribbean Carbon Forum (LACCF) will provide a platform for participants to discuss regional options and the enabling policy conditions that would be required to move towards carbon neutral economies in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region, as well as associated challenges. The Forum aims to facilitate discussions, knowledge exchange and experience sharing on: policies and measures; tools and methodologies; and technologies and financial mechanisms, necessary for putting forward and implementing ambitious Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) to the global effort of keeping global temperatures below 2 degrees C. The Forum is organized by the UNFCCC Secretariat, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UNEP Riso Centre, the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank, and the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), and hosted by the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
