UNFCCC Releases Synthesis Report on INDC Aggregate Effect [viewed]

UNFCCC30 October 2015: As mandated by the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UNFCCC at its 20th session, the Secretariat has released a synthesis report on the aggregate effect of the intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs) submitted by Parties as of 1 October 2015. The report underscores that, while the INDCs could deliver sizable emissions reductions and slow emissions growth over the next 10 years, their implementation will not result in aggregate annual emissions consistent with least-cost 2°C scenarios levels.

Multilateral development banks, environmental funds and UN entities also released studies, newsletters and reports on, inter alia, food security, access to finance, green bonds, black carbon and private sector climate finance.

UNFCCC 2015 Momentum for Change Awards Announced [viewed]

UNFCCC27 October 2015: The Momentum for Change Lighthouse Activity awards, which honor innovative, scalable and replicable climate actions from around the world, have been announced. The 16 selected initiatives come from around the world and a variety of sectors, highlighting inspiring mitigation and adaptation activities. The announcement of the 2015 Lighthouse Activities comes as Parties to the UNFCCC prepare to adopt a universal climate change agreement at the Paris Climate Change Conference in December 2015.

Event: Press Conference: UNFCCC Presents Aggregation Report of INDCs [viewed]

The UNFCCC Secretariat is hosting a press conference to present the synthesis report analyzing the aggregate effect of the intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs) submitted by Parties to the UNFCCC by 1 October 2015. The press conference, to be held in Berlin, Germany, will be live-streamed. UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres and State Secretary Jochen Flasbarth, German Environment Ministry, will speak at the conference.

Adaptation Fund Proposes Gender Policy, Invites Comments [viewed]

Adaptation Fund22 October 2015: The Adaptation Fund Board (AFB) launched a call for public comments on the Fund's proposed new gender policy. Building on the human rights based-approach of the Fund's Environmental and Social Policy, the gender policy proposal aims to ensure that projects ensure full and equitable participation of women and men in project decisions, and receive comparable social and economic benefits.

LAC Regional Workshop Discusses Sustainable Transport and Climate Mitigation [viewed]

leds_slocat20 October 2015: A webcast regional workshop, sponsored by the Partnership on Sustainable Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT) and several other partners, discussed prospects in Latin America for sustainable transport actions to mitigate climate change. The workshop was held on 13 October 2015, in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and was webcast to 75 participants in 15 Latin American countries by Finanzas Carbono.

JI Supervisory Committee Reports to CMP [viewed]

UNFCCC16 October 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the 'Annual report of the Joint Implementation Supervisory Committee to the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol' (FCCC/KP/CMP/2015/4). The report covers the work carried out by the Joint Implementation Supervisory Committee (JISC) from 18 September 2014 to 30 September 2015.

ADP 2-11 Issues Non-Papers for Basis of Work in Paris [viewed]

adp2-1123 October 2015: Parties to the UNFCCC met for the 11th part of the second session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP 2-11) in Bonn, Germany, to continue negotiations on the agreement of the Paris Climate Change Conference. At the end of the week-long meeting, Parties issued two non-papers, one containing draft agreement text and draft decision text related to the agreement (workstream 1 of ADP's mandate) and the other containing draft decision text related to pre-2020 ambition (workstream 2).

Religious Leaders Urge Ambitious Climate Agreement [viewed]

faith-leaders-declaration20 October 2015: UNFCCC Executive Director Christiana Figueres received a statement from a delegation of 154 faith and spiritual leaders representing different faith groups, headed by South African Archbishop Thabo Makgoba, calling for an ambitious climate agreement, reminding governments to commit to emission cuts and climate risk reduction, and pledging contributions from their own faith communities, including fossil fuel divestment.
