Paris Climate Change Conference Considers Reports from Funds, Side Events Consider Land, Farmers, INDCs [viewed]

cop21_iisdrs2 December 2015: On Wednesday, 2 December, African parties to the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP 21) endorsed Morocco to host COP 22. Also during the COP plenary, the Strategic Climate Fund reported that, for the first time, it has provided two draft compiled texts on guidance to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and Global Environment Facility (GEF).

Paris Pact on Water and Climate Change Adaptation, Other Commitments Announced [viewed]

unfccc_cop212 December 2015: National and local governments, river basin organizations, civil society and businesses announced the creation of coalitions and initiatives related to water and climate change at an event on ‘Water Resilience' under the Lima to Paris Action Agenda (LPAA), which is convening at the Paris Climate Change Conference. These initiatives include: the Paris Pact on Water and Adaptation, MegaCities Coalition on Water; Business Alliance for Water and Climate Change; Adaptation of the West African coastal areas; and Maritime Regions in Action against Climate Change.

December Update on Doha Amendment Ratification [viewed]

UNFCCC2 December 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that Argentina, the Bahamas, Cambodia, Chile, Iceland, New Zealand, Rwanda, and Sri Lanka have accepted the Doha Amendment, which formalizes commitments for the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol (2013-2020). These announcements bring the total number of Parties that have deposited their instruments of acceptance to 57.

Policy Update #25: Balancing Urgency and Integrity in Climate Finance: The Green Climate Fund's Daunting Task [viewed]

November 2015 began with an historic meeting of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), where the Board of this new international financial institution (IFI) approved the funding for its very first projects and programmes, totaling US$168 million and allocating an additional US$195 million over time. November ended with the first day of negotiations at the much anticipated Paris Climate Change Conference, where finance for mitigation and adaptation is expected to be a contentious issue as governments work toward a new global climate agreement. Climate finance has been named one of the pillars underlying a successful outcome in Paris by the French Presidency of the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC.

LPAA Forest Event Features Commitments to Protect and Restore Forests [viewed]

lpaa1 December 2015: A special event on forests, held as part of the Paris Climate Change Conference and under the Lima-Paris Action Agenda (LPAA), showcased partnerships, commitments and implementation strategies to protect and restore forests, and endorsed them as a key climate solution. The LPAA is a joint undertaking of the Peruvian and French Presidencies of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UNFCCC, the Office of the UN Secretary-General and the UNFCCC Secretariat.
