UNFCCC Publishes Corrigendum to Response Measures Workshop Report [viewed]

10 February 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a corrigendum (FCCC/SB/2011/INF.6/Corr.1) to the report on the joint workshop on matters relating to Article 2.3 (adverse impacts of policies and measures) and Article 3.14 (adverse effects and impacts of response measures) of the Kyoto Protocol. This joint Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) and Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) workshop was held from 19-20 September 2011, in Bonn, Germany.

First Cookstove CDM Programme of Activity Registered in Africa [viewed]

9 February 2012: The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Executive Board has registered the first African cookstove CDM Programme of Activity (PoA), under which up to 100,000 improved cookstoves will be distributed over five years, generating emission reductions of up to 250,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually.

Event: Workshop on the Process and Requirements of the Accreditation of National Implementing Entities for Direct Access under the Adaptation Fund for the Asian and Eastern European Regions [viewed]

The Adaptation Fund (AF), established by the parties to the Kyoto Protocol of the UNFCCC, is mandated to finance concrete adaptation projects and programmes in developing countries that are parties to the Kyoto Protocol. These funds can either be accessed through an accredited multilateral institution, or through an accredited National Implementing Entity (NIE). For an NIE to be accredited, it has to provide evidence for being able to meet the fiduciary standards set up by the AF Board. An entity that meets these standards and in turn becomes an accredited NIE has "direct access" to the resources of the AF. This workshop for the Asian region is the third of a series, as two regional workshops have already been organized by the Secretariat for the African region, and for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Event: Fourth African Carbon Forum [viewed]

The fourth African Carbon Forum is being held under the theme "Promoting Green and Low Carbon Development in Africa". Organized by the Nairobi Framework Partners, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UNEP Risoe Centre (URC), the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank (WB) and the Africa Development Bank (AfDB), the Forum will host a series of plenary sessions, round tables and workshops to discuss topics related to the carbon market in Africa. Topics to be addressed include the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol, plans of action and scaled-up mitigation actions, improving energy access in Africa and REDD+.

UNFCCC Publishes Finland's GHG Inventory Review Report [viewed]

30 January 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report (FCCC/ARR/2011/FIN) of the individual review of the annual submission of Finland submitted in 2011. The report notes that in 2009, the main greenhouse gas (GHG) in Finland was carbon dioxide, accounting for 83.5% of total GHG emissions expressed in CO2 eq, followed by nitrous oxide (N02) (8.6%) and methane (CH4) (6.4%).

Event: 28th Meeting of the Joint Implementation Supervisory Committee [viewed]

The 28th meeting of the Joint Implementation Supervisory Committee (JISC 28) will be holding to consider matters relating to the operation of Joint Implementation (JI). The meeting is open to shall attendance, as observers, by all Parties and UNFCCC accredited observers and stakeholders. The deadline for registration as an observer is two weeks before the meeting, and only observers, which register by the stipulated deadline of 8 March 2012, will be allowed to have access to the observer room. The meeting will also be webcast.

UNFCCC Publishes AWG-KP Report from Panama and Durban [viewed]

30 January 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the report (FCCC/KP/AWG/2011/7) of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP) on the third and fourth parts of its 16th session, held in Panama City, Panama, from 1-7 October 2011, and Durban, South Africa, from 29 November-10 December 2011.

Davos Forum Debates Adaptation to Climate Risk [viewed]

26 January 2012: Participating in a session on Adapting to Climate Risk, held at the annual World Economic Forum, in Davos, Switzerland, Lord Nicholas Stern, Chair, Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, UK, noted that the world is heading towards a 3°C increase in global average temperature, and warned that this situation "will bring temperatures not seen for three million years, with unforeseeable consequences."
