COP 20 Presidency Meets Informally with Lead ADP Negotiators [viewed]

cop20-unfccc3 October 2014: With the aim of providing an additional space for negotiations, the Government of Peru convened government representatives from close to 40 countries for an Informal Meeting to discuss issues on the agenda of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP). The meeting considered issues related to pre-2020 ambition, intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs), and the 2015 agreement.

Event: South-South Cooperation on Climate Change Forum [viewed]

The South-South Cooperation on Climate Change Forum is co-sponsored by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and the UN Development Programme (UNDP), with support from the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development (SDC), WWF-China, UNEP-Tongji-IESD, the UNFCCC Secretariat, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The Forum, which will take place in the interval of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCCC, aims to contribute to a successful post-2015 climate agreement by promoting South-South Cooperation as an integral part of global action against climate change. It provides an opportunity for participants to engage in the ongoing climate talks and provide recommendations on a number innovative actions, policy setting, financing and institutional development to enable rapid scaling-up of South-South Cooperation initiatives. The Forum will bring together ten ministers from Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America and Caribbean, representatives from UN agencies, UNEP, UNDP, UNFCCC, the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), development agencies, and international organizations, leaders of science and business communities, and practitioners from around the world.

World Summit of Regions Issues Paris Declaration on Climate Action [viewed]

r2013 October 2014: The first World Summit of Regions for Climate brought together over 1,000 representatives of cities, regions, provinces, states, universities and businesses to address climate change, and resulted in a joint declaration calling for commitment to concrete actions on the road to the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC, when a new climate deal is expected to be agreed.

UNFCCC Draws Lessons from Adaptation Planning Processes [viewed]

UNFCCC2 October 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a ‘Synthesis report on methods and tools for, and good practices and lessons learned relating to, adaptation planning processes addressing ecosystems, human settlements, water resources and health, and good practices and lessons learned related to processes and structures for linking national and local adaptation planning.'

ADP Co-Chairs Outline Scenario for October Session [viewed]

UNFCCC8 October 2014: The Co-Chairs of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) have issued a scenario note on the sixth part of the ADP's second session (ADP 2-6). The document (ADP.2014.9.InformalNote) presents the Co-Chairs' proposals on how to carry out the work of ADP 2-6 and aims to assist parties in their preparations for the upcoming session.

ECOSOC Reflects on SIDS Conference, Post-2015, Climate Processes [viewed]

ECOSOC1 October 2014: The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) held an informal stock-taking meeting on the outcome of the third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The conference took place in Apia, Samoa, from 1-4 September 2014, and the stock-taking meeting allowed UN Member States to reflect on the Conference outcome document, the 'SAMOA Pathway,' as well as the way forward.
