Event: E-forum on Long-term Finance [viewed]

This e-forum will seek to engage with stakeholders and provide a platform for the exchange of views and sharing of technical and analytic information on a variety of topics. It will include sub-forums on: “Scaling mobilization of finance resources from multiple sources of finance,” taking place from 3-9 September; “Insight from approaches applied to assessment of financing needs to implement mitigation and adaption measures in developing countries,” from 10-14 September; “Addressing the adaptation finance needs of developing countries,” from 15-22 September; and “Enabling conditions needed to mobilize climate finance,” from 23 September to 6 October.

UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee Continues Dialogue on Enabling Environments [viewed]

8 September 2012: The fourth meeting of the UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee (TEC 4) continued its thematic dialogue with relevant stakeholders on enabling environments and barriers to technology development and transfer, which began at TEC 3, and also considered progress on the implementation of its workplan for 2012-2013, in relation to, inter alia: technology roadmaps, relevant work of other institutions under and outside of the Convention, technology needs assessments, and possible topics for technical papers.

UNFCCC Convenes Informal Session, In-session Workshop on REDD+ [viewed]

5 September 2012: The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held an informal additional session of the Ad hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA), on 30 August 2012, in Bangkok, Thailand. The session included a discussion of policy approaches and positive incentives on issues relating to REDD+.

CDM Issues One Billionth Certified Emission Reduction Credit [viewed]

7 September 2012: The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) has issued the one billionth certified emission reduction (CER), the UNFCCC Secretariat has announced. The one billionth CER was issued to a fuel switch project in India, involving a manufacturing plant that switched its fuel source from coal and oil to locally-gathered biomass.

Bangkok Informal Sessions Address Outstanding Issues Ahead of Doha [viewed]

ADP Co-Chairs Harald Dovland, Norway, and Jayant Moreshwar Mauskar, India, being congratulated by Haldor Thorgeirsson, UNFCCC Secretariat at the close of AWG-ADP.7 September 2012: The informal additional sessions of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA), the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP) and the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP), which convened in Bangkok, Thailand, constituted the last official negotiating sessions before the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to the UNFCCC, scheduled to take place at the end of 2012, in Doha, Qatar.

Asia/Pacific CDM Regional Workshop Focuses on Standardized Baselines, PoA [viewed]

20 July 2012: The Third Workshop on Enhancing the Regional Distribution of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Projects in Asia and the Pacific focused on the issues of standardized baselines and the CDM Programme of Activities (PoA), with the aim of promoting more CDM projects in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), small island developing States (SIDS) and countries hosting fewer than ten registered projects.

Event: Second UNFCCC Workshop on Long-term Finance [viewed]

The aim of the long-term finance work programme is to contribute to the on-going efforts to scale up the mobilization of climate change finance after 2012. The second workshop will build on the discussions held during the first workshop in June in Bonn. While the first workshop mainly concentrated on understanding the general nature and overview of long-term climate finance, the second workshop is designed to generate more in-depth discussion on its sources and enabling environments. The Cape Town event is also an opportunity for Parties, private sector and civil society stakeholders to express their views on these issues. In-depth discussions will be held on important sub-topics such as new and innovative sources of climate finance, various approaches and strategies to mobilize climate finance from various sources, and ways to strengthen the capacity of developing countries for improved access to climate finance. To ensure full transparency and inclusiveness, central parts of the second workshop will be webcast live and on demand, and external participants will be able to put questions to the presenters, and leave comment's on UNFCCC's social media platforms.

CDM Methodologies Panel Recommends Two New CDM Methodologies [viewed]

17 August 2012: The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Methodologies Panel has concluded its 57th meeting, during which it considered five proposed new methodologies, and agreed to recommend two of the proposals for approval and to continue work on the others.
