Special Gala Honors Recipients of Momentum for Change Awards [viewed]

UNFCCC10 December 2015: The recipients of the 2015 UN Climate Solutions Award 'Momentum for Change' were honored during a special ceremony and gala event organized by the UNFCCC Secretariat on the sidelines of the Paris Climate Change Conference. Sixteen initiatives were awarded prizes in the following categories: urban poor, women for results, financing for climate-friendly investment and information and communication technology (ICT) solutions.

COP 21 Considers Revised Draft Paris Outcome [viewed]

cop21_day1110 December 2015: Negotiations continued on the draft outcome of the Paris Climate Change Conference on Thursday, 10 December, with COP 21 President Laurent Fabius introducing a revised draft text in the evening. Fabius said there are “open options” on the most complex issues of differentiation, finance and ambition, and asked delegates to examine the document with a "new perspective,” keeping the final agreement in mind, suggesting “we are extremely close to the finish line.” Following a second night of negotiations, delegates were told on Friday that the sixth meeting of the Comité de Paris would convene Saturday morning, 12 December, during which a final draft of the proposed Paris Outcome would be presented.

LPAA Results in Over 70 Major Climate Action Initiatives [viewed]

lpaa9 December 2015: The Lima-Paris Action Agenda (LPAA), which convened on the sidelines of the Paris Climate Change Conference, illustrated the “massive and rising response by cities, regions, business and civil society to take ambitious climate action, frequently in cooperation with national governments,” according to the UNFCCC Secretariat. The LPAA resulted in over 70 major initiatives from nearly 10,000 actors from 180 countries on agriculture, building, business, cities, forests, innovation, private finance, resilience, short-lived climate pollutants, transport and water.

COP 21 Considers Revised Draft Outcome [viewed]

cop219 December: Delegates at COP 21 discussed a revised version of the Paris outcome during an evening session of the Comité de Paris. Introducing the revised draft, COP 21 President Laurent Fabius informed parties that the text: is “inspired” by the ADP draft Paris outcome from Saturday, 5 December; incorporates ministerial facilitators' recommendations; and draws from ADP co-facilitators' suggestions and experience. He explained that the 29-page text, which contains three-fourths fewer brackets than the previous draft, aims to provide an overview of progress made and identify clear options on three cross-cutting issues still to be settled at the political level.

cop218 December 2015: Negotiations advanced on the draft outcome of COP 21, with minister-led informal consultations, bilaterals and party-led breakout groups under the "Comité de Paris" on: support: MOI (finance, technology and capacity building); acceleration of pre-2020 action (workstream 2, excluding pre-2020 finance); adaptation, and loss and damage; differentiation, in particular with regard to mitigation, finance and transparency; ambition, including long-term goals and periodic review; facilitating implementation and compliance; preamble; forests; cooperative mechanisms; and response measures.

LPAA Launches 5-Year Vision for Climate Action by Cities, Regions [viewed]

lpaa8 December 2015: The Lima-Paris Action Agenda (LPAA), a partnership of governments and the UN, launched a five-year vision aiming to strengthen action on climate change by cities and regions, on the sidelines of the Paris Climate Change Conference. The LPAA is led jointly by the Governments of Peru and France, the Office of the UN Secretary-General, and the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Business Leaders Commit to Advancing Low-carbon Economy [viewed]

Global Compact8 December 2015: The third annual Caring for Climate Business Forum brought together 400 business leaders, government officials and other stakeholders to discuss how business can accelerate action for climate change mitigation, and to announce new commitments by business leaders and joint initiatives. The event showed that a growing number of businesses is taking forward-looking actions to develop viable business models in support of a low-carbon economy.
