US, Japan Announce Pledges to the Green Climate Fund [viewed]

us-japan15 November 2014: The US has announced a US$3 billion pledge to the Green Climate Fund (GCF). US President Barak Obama made the announcement on the eve of the G20 Summit, which convened in Brisbane, Australia, from 15-16 November 2014. In a separate announcement, also on the margins of the G20 Summit, Japan said it would pledge US$1.5 billion. With these two announcements, the pledges received thus far by the GCF amount to US$7.5 billion.

UNFCCC Releases Views on National Adaptation Processes [viewed]

UNFCCC13 November 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a compilation of countries' adaptation planning experiences, including information on good practices and lessons learned in the areas of ecosystems, human settlements, water resources and health. Parties and partner organizations of the Nairobi Work Programme (NWP) on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change were also invited to submit information on monitoring and evaluation, and processes and structures for linking national and local adaptation planning.

UNFCCC Reviews Biennial Reports, National Communications Information [viewed]

UNFCCC13 November 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published an annual report on the technical review of information reported under the Convention related to biennial reports (BRs) and national communications (NCs) by Annex I Parties to the Convention (FCCC/SBSTA/2014/INF.20). The report describes activities relating to the review of information reported in the first biennial reports and sixth national communications submitted by Annex I Parties in 2014. It also provides information on the composition of expert review teams (ERTs) and on the training of reviewers.

LEG, NAP-GSP Workshop Supports Development of NAPs in Pacific SIDS [viewed]

nap-unfccc7 November 2014: Under the auspices of the UNFCCC Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG), nine Pacific Island countries gathered for a five-day workshop aimed at launching a process for medium- and long-term adaptation planning. The meeting was held in collaboration with UN Development Programme (UNDP)/UN Environment Programme (UNEP) National Adaptation Plan Global Support Programme (NAP-GSP), which supports developing countries in creating and implementing NAPs.

UNFCCC Publishes Country Views on REDD+ Safeguard Information Systems [viewed]

UNFCCC6 November 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has compiled submissions received from developing country Parties on their views regarding information systems to track the implementation of safeguards for REDD+ (Decision 1/CP.16, Appendix I). The Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) asked parties to comment on their experiences, lessons learned and challenges in developing such systems.

INF.17); and an annual report on the technical review of GHG inventories and other information reported by UNFCCC Annex I Parties that are also Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (FCCC/SBSTA/2014/
INF.18).

Event: Green Climate Fund High-Level Pledging Conference [viewed]

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) will hold a high-level pledging conference on 20 November, in Berlin, Germany. The conference will be co-hosted by Germany's Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Gerd Müller, and Environment Minister Barbara Hendricks. The pledging conference is open to all governments intersted in contributing to the GCF, and high-level representatives are expected from more than 20 countries. Germany is hosting the event in accordance with a pledge made during the Fund's Initial Resource Mobilization process. Capitalization of the GCF will mark a milestone for the negotiations at the UN Climate Change Conference, scheduled to take place from 1-12 December 2014, in Lima, Peru.
