UNFCCC Reports on 2nd Dialogue on Public Awareness [viewed]

UNFCCC15 September 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a summary report (FCCC/SBI/2014/15) on the second Dialogue on Article 6 of the Convention, held during the 40th session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 40), on 5, 8 and 11 June 2014, in Bonn, Germany. The Dialogue, attended by over 120 representatives of intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations (IGOs and NGOs), the private sector and the media, focused on good practices and lessons learned on public participation, awareness and access to information, and international cooperation on such matters.

UNFCCC Informs on COP 20 Observer Organization Applications [viewed]

UNFCCC15 September 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has issued a note on the admission of observers ahead of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention (COP 20). The note (FCCC/CP/2014/4) contains a list of applicant organizations for admission as observers at COP 20, and information on the rules regarding the admission of intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) as observers at sessions of the COP.

Event: Resumed Initial Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage [viewed]

This resumed initial meeting of the Executive Committee (ExCom) of the Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage associated with Climate Change Impacts is continuing preparations of the draft two-year workplan of the Executive Committee for the implementation of the functions in accordance with decision 2/CP.19 (Warsaw international mechanism for loss and damage). The ExCom plans to present a preliminary draft workplan, with the aim of further consulting with observers on the proposed components of the workplan. The meeting will include extensive interactions between the ExCom and observers on this issue, with the objective of finalizing the workplan.

UNFCCC, Ecofys Participate in First Climate Change 'Hackathon' [viewed]

hack4good14 September 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat and Ecofys participated in the first global 'hackathon,' which brought together leading software engineers, hackers, thought leaders and community-oriented organizations worldwide to build projects and technology solution prototypes that seek to address 15 global climate change-related challenges. Taking place from 12-14 September 2014, the event, titled ‘#hack4good 0.6,' attracted more than 3,000 developers in over 40 cities on six continents.

Solomon Islands Accepts Doha Amendment [viewed]

Latin American and Caribbean Forum Discusses Future of Carbon Markets [viewed]

Latinamericanforum5 September 2014: The eighth Latin American and Caribbean Carbon Forum (LACCF) brought together businesses, governments and other stakeholders to exchange information on the latest developments in emissions trading schemes (ETS), low-emission development and the future of the carbon markets. Participants addressed, inter alia: climate change adaptation and mitigation opportunities at multiple levels; and climate finance and policy options, including carbon pricing and the role of the public and private sectors in concerted climate action.

GCF Set for Initial Resource Mobilization [viewed]

Green Climate Fund (GCF)9 September 2014: Representatives from over 20 governments met in Bonn, Germany, for the Green Climate Fund's (GCF) second Initial Resource Mobilization (IRM) meeting. Attendees consulted informally on the Fund's initial capitalization in advance of the first formal GCF Pledging Conference, which is scheduled to take place in November, during which contributors are expected to announce initial contributions to the Fund.
