Event: ITPGR High-Level Expert Workshop on Food Crops for Agriculture in Changing Climate: An Expert Communiqué [viewed]

To be held on the sidelines of the UN Climate Summit, this Expert Workshop will address the role of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR) in addressing the challenges of producing more nutritious food on less land under the influence of climate change. The workshop will cover activities and initiatives under the Treaty in three segments: conservation and management of crop diversity; the Treaty systems for downstream use of crop diversity; and breeding and making available climate-smart varieties to farmers.

UNEP, WMO Assessment Finds Ozone Layer Could Recover to 1980 Levels [viewed]

unep-wmo10 September 2014: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) have released the ‘Assessment for Decision-Makers,' a summary of the Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion 2014, which was prepared and reviewed by 282 scientists from 36 countries. The Assessment finds that, as a result of the implementation of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, the ozone layer is expected to recover to 1980 benchmark levels.

UNFCCC Reports on Non-Annex I GHG Inventory Trainings [viewed]

UNFCCC9 September 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a report on regional hands-on training workshops, organized between October 2013 and March 2014, on the use of non-Annex I greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory software (NAIIS). The report describes the proceedings of, and presentations and discussions held during, three workshops aimed at training national focal points and other key experts from non-Annex I parties.

UNFCCC Releases GEF Report to COP 20 [viewed]

GEF UNFCCC2 September 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCCC. The report will form the basis for the COP to communicate to the GEF Council any policy guidance approved by UNFCCC parties concerning the financial mechanism.

SIDS Conference Continues Partnership Announcements, Discussing Energy, Oceans and Biodiversity [viewed]

sidsd4sep3 September 2014: The Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) continued plenary discussions, which featured statements and announcements of commitments and partnerships. Two multi-stakeholder partnership dialogues took place on: sustainable energy; and oceans, seas and biodiversity. Numerous side events took place through the day and into the evening, including several focused on renewable energy.
