CBD-WHO Report Discusses Linkages between Biodiversity and Health [viewed]

Connecting Global Priorities Biodiversity and Human Health4 June 2015: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have released a report, titled 'Connecting Global Priorities - Biodiversity and Human Health,' which reviews current knowledge on the linkages between biodiversity and human health, and the impact of a decline in biodiversity and ecosystem services on health. Based on knowledge from a wide range of scientific disciplines, this publication provides a comprehensive overview of the complex relationships between biodiversity and human health in thematic areas. It also profiles linkages to other global concerns, including climate change and to the post-2015 sustainable development agenda, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Event: 49th Meeting of the GEF Council [viewed]

The GEF Council meets twice a year to approve new projects with global environmental benefits in the GEF's focal areas (biodiversity, climate change mitigation, chemicals and waste, international waters, land degradation, sustainable forest management) and integrated approach pilots (sustainable cities, taking deforestation out of commodity chains, and sustainability and resilience for food security in Sub-Saharan Africa), and provide guidance to the GEF Secretariat and Agencies. A CSO Consultation will take place the day before the Council meeting.

GEF Council Approves Largest Proposed Work Program in History of GEF Financing [viewed]

Participants at the 48th meeting of the GEF Council 4 June 2015: The 48th meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council adopted the largest proposed Work Program in the history of GEF financing, involving a total of US$709 million of GEF Trust Fund resources, plus an indicative amount of US$4.81 billion in co-financing. The Work Program encompasses Integrated Approach Pilots (IAPs) on sustainable cities, food security in sub-Saharan Africa, and taking deforestation out of commodity supply chains, as well as other projects and programs.

IEA Report Finds Slowing Rate of Clean Energy Technology Deployment [viewed]

WHO Updates Health and Climate Change Country Profiles [viewed]

WHO2 June 2015: The World Health Organization (WHO) provided an update on the development of WHO/UNFCCC country profiles during a side event at the Bonn Climate Change Conference. ‘Country Profiles for Health and Climate Change' focused on experiences of and lessons learned by the WHO European Country Office in developing the profiles, which aim to support the development of national adaptation plans.
