Stockholm Convention to Study Climate Change and POPs [viewed]

12 March 2010: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Stockholm Convention Secretariat has informed it will carry out a 12-month international study of the influence of climate change and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) on human health and the environment. The study, which was announced during the fifth Environment and Health Ministerial Conference held in Parma, Italy, from 10-12 March 2010, will involve over 10 organizations in five countries and will review the latest science to inform the assessment of current and new POPs.

UNFCCC Secretariat Releases CDM Audio Files [viewed]

11 March 2010: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a new batch of audio files in their Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Audio File Service. These new files cover the basic workings of the CDM and include topics such as additionality, the CDM programme of activities and regional distribution of CDM projects.

CBD Secretariat Circulates Fact Sheets for the International Year of Biodiversity [viewed]

9 March 2010: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has circulated 30 fact sheets for the celebration of the International Year of Biodiversity 2010. The fact sheets provide a brief synopsis on key issues related to the CBD and the Biosafety Protocol, including climate change and biodiversity.

CBD Secretariat Circulates Eighth Volume of REDD-plus and Biodiversity e-Newsletter [viewed]

5 March 2010: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has circulated volume 8 of its "REDD-plus & Biodiversity e-Newsletter," which includes a call for the poster session organized around the theme "Biodiversity and Climate Change: Achieving the 2020 Targets." The poster session will take place at the 14th meeting of the CBD Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA), to be held from 10-21 May 2010, in Nairobi, Kenya.

Event: Workshop on Forest Governance, Decentralization and REDD in Latin America [viewed]

The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF), with a number of government collaborators, are organizing a workshop with participants from government, development and environmental NGOs and local community and indigenous peoples representatives to discuss regional perspectives on REDD and develop a better understanding of how decentralisation and forest governance contribute to sustainable management of forests. The results are expected to feed into the 9th session of the UN Forum on Forests. CIFOR is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
