The 11th meeting of the contracting parties (COP 11) to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat will be preceded by the 44th meeting of Standing Committee planned for 4 July 2012, and an additional day of regional meetings on 5-6 July 2011, as requested by many Contracting Parties. The Standing Committee agreed that the broad theme for World Wetlands Day 2012 and COP 11 is “Wetlands, Tourism and Recreation.”
The fifth meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-Term Cooperative Action (AWG-LCA) and the seventh session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP) are scheduled to take place from 29 March to 8 April 2009, in Bonn, Germany.
8 November 2008: Participants to the 44th session of the International Tropical Timber Council (ITTC), which was held in Yokohama, Japan, from 3-8 November 2008, discussed developments under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) regarding forests and their potential implications for tropical forests and the world tropical timber economy, but did not adopt a decision on this agenda item.
7 November 2008: At the 44th session of the International
Tropical Timber Council and the Associated Sessions of the four Committees
(Finance and Administration, Economic Information and Market Intelligence,
Forest Industry, and Reforestation and Forest Management), the European
Commission (EC) announced a communication on deforestation and climate change,
with the goal of informing the EU position at the upcoming climate change
negotiations in Poznan, Poland.
4 November 2008: The 10th meeting of the Conference of the
Contracting Parties (COP10) to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, held from 28
October-4 November 2008, in Changwon, Republic of Korea, adopted a resolution
addressing the impacts of climate change on wetlands.

November 2008: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Risoe
Centre on Energy, Climate and Sustainable Development has announced calls for
clean development mechanism (CDM) and voluntary market projects in Benin and
Mali for project sponsors who want to participate in CDM capacity building
workshops to be held in the two countries.
29 October 2008: Luc Gnacadja, Executive Secretary of the UN
Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) told a news conference at UN
Headquarters, NY, US, that “the nexus between land degradation and climate
change is clear,” with global warming being likely to lead to more extreme
weather events, which could lead to soil erosion and loss of land cover.
29 October 2008: On the sidelines of the 10th Conference of Contracting Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, taking place in Changwon, Republic of Korea, from 28 October-4 November 2008, the Ramsar Secretariat, the Danone Group and IUCN have entered into a partnership targeting climate change.

Board, at its 42nd meeting on 24-26 September 2008, in Bonn, Germany, decided
to make the draft document of “Elaboration of CDM Accreditation Requirements”
as contained annex 1 of the 26th progress report of the CDM-Accreditation
Panel, available for public comment from 29 September 2008 to 27 October 2008.
