December 2008: The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Executive Board has published the report of its 44th meeting, which was held from 26-28 November 2008, at the Poznań International Fair Ltd, in Poznań, Poland.
27 November 2008: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released three substantive papers for parties on finance. One technical paper, entitled “Investment and financial flows to address climate change: An update” (FCCC/TP/2008/7), provides an update to the paper published by the Secretariat on the same topic in 2007.
25 November 2008: Speaking ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference in Poznan, Poland, Richard Damania, World Bank Lead Environmental Economist for the South Asia Region, described the climate-related challenges in South Asia as daunting.
26 November 2008: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the final issue of the UNFCCC newsletter for 2008.
25 November 2008: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon plans to attend the next round of climate negotiations in December 2008 in Poznan, Poland. At the opening of the High-level Segment, he will articulate his ideas for some of the key issues under negotiation, such as the nature of the shared vision needed for long-term cooperative action on climate change.
24 November 2008: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released four papers on adaptation in an effort to aid parties in carrying out adaptation measures. Two of these papers are related to the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-Term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA).
21 November 2008: The eighth Conference of the Parties to the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the 20th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (COP 8/MOP 20) took place in Doha, Qatar, from 16-20 November 2008.
20 November 2008: Organized by Tebtebba (Indigenous Peoples' International Centre for Policy Research and Education), the UN University (UNU) Institute of Advanced Studies Traditional Knowledge Initiative, the UN REDD Programme and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Secretariat, the Global Indigenous Peoples Consultation on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) was held from 12-14 November 2008, in Baguio City, the Philippines. Participants adopted a global indigenous peoples strategy on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.
20 November 2008: UN environmental heads have welcomed US President-elect Obama's statement in a video message to the Governors' Global Climate Summit, which convened in Los Angeles, California, US, from 18-19 November 2008, that his presidency “will mark a new chapter in America's leadership on climate change.”
19 November 2008: In a speech to the African Conference of
Ministers in Charge of Environment on Climate Change for Post-2012, which
convened in Algiers, Algeria, from 19-20 November 2008, UNFCCC Executive
Secretary Yvo de Boer said an agreed outcome at Copenhagen must be more
Africa-friendly and spur enabling support for the continent.
