In Bonn, UNFCCC Executive Secretary Underscores Growing Momentum of Global Climate Action [viewed]

6 June 2011: The UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn opened on 6 June 2011, and is scheduled to conclude on 17 June 2011. The conference will include the 34th sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA). It also comprises the second part of the 16th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP) and the second part of the 14th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA).

Rainforest Basins Summit Calls for South-South Cooperation [viewed]

3 June 2011: The Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Three Rainforest Basins, namely the Amazon, Congo, and Borneo-Mekong basins, took place in Brazzaville, Congo, from 27 May-3 June 2011, to establish new ways to increase technical cooperation on forest matters, and adopted a joint statement on tropical forests, climate and sustainable development.

CBD Secretariat Prepares for LAC REDD+ Workshop [viewed]

3 June 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has circulated the list of sponsored experts for the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Consultation and Capacity Building Workshop on REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation  in developing countries, as well as conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks), to be held from 5-8 July 2011, in Quito, Ecuador.

UNFCCC Workshop Discusses Implementation of the Technology Mechanism [viewed]

2 June 2011: The UNFCCC Workshop on Technology Needs Assessments (TNAs) convened in Bonn, Germany, from 1-2 June 2011. The workshop sought to: share good practices and lessons learned from non-Annex I parties' experiences in conducting TNAs; identify specific needs and practical actions to assist parties in implementing their results; and discuss the roles of TNAs in the context of the implementation of the Technology Mechanism as established at COP 16 in Decision 1/CP.16 (the Cancun Agreements).

FAO/ITTO Report: Deforestation Rates in Rainforest Basins "Alarming" [viewed]
