The Enforcement Branch of the Kyoto Protocol Compliance Committee will be holding its 14th meeting to, among other things, consider questions of implementation of the Kyoto Protocol with respect to certain Parties. The meeting is open to attendance by observers who register by the deadline of 8 August 2011, and the parts of the meeting that are held in public will also be webcast.

South African Ministers Outline Priorities for Durban [viewed]

2 August 2011: In a press briefing, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa and incoming President of the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UNFCCC, together with South African Water and Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa, described South Africa's preparations to ensure it hosts an international event that meets UN requirements as well as their priorities for the Durban Climate Change Conference.

UNFCCC Publishes Convention Amendment Submissions [viewed]

UNFCCC26 July 2011: The UNFCCC has published a proposal (FCCC/CP/2011/3) from Cyprus and the EU to amend Annex I to the Convention, as well as a proposal (FCCC/CP/2011/4) from Papua New Guinea and Mexico to amend Articles 7 (Conference of the Parties) and 18 (right to vote) of the Convention.

Event: 26th Meeting of the Joint Implementation Supervisory Committee [viewed]

The 26th meeting of the Joint Implementation Supervisory Committee (JISC 26) will take place in Bonn, Germany. The meeting is open to attendance, as observers, by all parties and UNFCCC accredited observers and stakeholders. The deadline for registration as an observer is two weeks before the meeting and only observers who have registered within the stipulated deadline of 30 August 2011 will be allowed to have access to the observer room. The meeting will also be webcast.

Event: International Symposium on Drought and National Drought Policies [viewed]

This symposium is organized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). It will build on the WMO meeting on national drought policies held at George Mason University, Fairfax, US, from 14-15 July 2011, which outlined steps for countries to reduce drought risks and help coordinate the development of a "best-practices" compendium on developing drought policies. The collaboration between the WMO and UNCCD builds on recent partnerships, such as on the use of the Standard Precipitation Index as a universal drought index.

ITTO Supports REDD+ Feasibility Study in Brazil [viewed]

1 August 2011: The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) has signed an agreement with the Japanese company Marubeni to conduct a feasibility study on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, as well as conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stock (REDD+) in the Brazilian Amazon.

Multilateral Fund ExCom Supports China's Commitment to Cut HCFCs [viewed]

29 July 2011: During its 25-29 July 2011 meeting in Montreal, Canada, the 64th meeting of the Executive Committee (ExCom) of the Multilateral Fund agreed to grant US$265 million to China to cut hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) emissions by 2015. The agreement is expected to lead to dual ozone and climate benefits.

Ramsar Publishes Framework for Assessing the Vulnerability of Wetlands to Climate Change [viewed]
