UNFCCC Releases Provisional Agendas for Paris Conference [viewed]

UNFCCC11 September 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the provisional agendas for: the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC; the 11th session of the COP serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 11); and the 43rd sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 43) and of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI). The meetings are taking place from 30 November to 1 December 2015, in Paris, France.

Event: Building a Global Energy Efficiency Financing Alliance [viewed]

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) are bringing together banks, leasing companies, insurance providers, development finance institutions (DFIs) and microfinance institutions for an event on 'Building a Global Energy Efficiency Financing Alliance'. Participants will share business strategies for integrating energy efficiency into investments. The event is intended to highlight the role energy efficiency plays as an economically effective means of combating climate change, especially in the lead-up to the Paris Climate Change Conference where Parties to the UNFCCC are expected to adopt a universal climate change agreement. EBRD and UNEP FI are organizing the event to encourage further investment in energy efficiency and highlight commitments to energy efficiency finance as part of the global response to climate change.

Policy Update #23: Taking Stock of the August ADP Meeting [viewed]

Delegates converged in Bonn for the tenth part of the second session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP 2-10) with the scent of summer in the air. However, with only ten negotiating days scheduled before the start of COP 21, many acknowledged that time was of the essence, and pressure was on to significantly increase the pace of negotiations.

LAC Carbon Forum Calls for Including Market Approaches in Paris Agreement [viewed]

Côte d'Ivoire Submits INDC [viewed]

cote_d'ivoire11 September 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that Côte d'Ivoire is the 61st Party to formally submit its intended nationally determined contribution (INDC), which announces two greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets: the first, 28% below a business as usual (BAU) reference scenario by 2030, is based on the reduction efforts contained in the strategic sectoral development plans with the support of technical partners and financiers; the second, an additional 8% for a total 36% reduction, is subject to capacity building, technology development and transfer, and financial support that is new, additional and easily accessible.

CCAC Working Group Reviews Draft Implementation Plan [viewed]

ccac_workingroup9 September 2015: During a meeting in Paris, France, from 8-9 September 2015, the Working Group of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (CCAC) reviewed and further elaborated on the draft Implementation Plan for the Five-Year Strategy, whose framework was endorsed by the sixth CCAC High-Level Assembly (HLA) in May 2015. The Plan, which the seventh HLA is expected to approve and launch on the margins of the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in December 2015, outlines critical actions for the period 2015 – 2020 as laid out in the CCAC's Five-Year Strategy.

Jordan Submits INDC [viewed]

jordan-flag10 September 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that Jordan is the 60th Party to formally submit its intended nationally determined contribution (INDC), which announces an unconditional greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction target of 1.5% below a business as usual reference scenario by 2030. The INDC also announces a conditional target of an additional 12.5% in reductions, dependent on availability of international financial aid and means of implementation (MOI).

Standing Committee on Finance Examines Coherence in Financing for Forests [viewed]

UNFCCC9 September 2015: The Third Forum of the Standing Committee on Finance (SCF) under the UNFCCC focused on enhancing coherence and coordination of forest financing. The Forum addressed forests in the context of both mitigation and adaptation to climate change. The outcomes of the discussions are set to guide the SCF in shaping conclusions and, potentially, recommendations to the Conference of the Parties (COP) on coherence and coordination on financing for forests.
