27 November 2012: The UNFCCC Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG LCA) has released a draft decision on enhanced mitigation of developed countries on behalf of 20 parties.
27 November 2012: The UN University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) has released a report on climate-induced loss and damage, based on case studies from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Gambia, Kenya and the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). The study found that all five countries have suffered climate-induced loss and damage, despite implementing adaptation and coping measures.
27 November 2012: The World Economic Forum (WEF) and UNFCCC Secretariat have announced an initiative to showcase successful public-private financing mechanisms and approaches to supporting climate change adaption and mitigation activities. The initiative, called “Momentum for Change: Innovative Financing for Climate-friendly Investment,” will inform governments, investors, business, public finance agencies and the media about opportunities to leverage innovative finance for sustainable growth.
26 November 2012: The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG LCA) released additional submissions from Cyprus and the European Commission (EC) on behalf of the EU and its member States and Papua New Guinea on views on the new market based mechanism.
26 November 2012: The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG KP) released the quantified emission limitation or reduction objectives (QELROs) for the second commitment period from Australia, Kazakhstan, Liechtenstein and Ukraine.
21 November 2012: The Adaptation Fund Board (AFB) has accredited two new entities as a National Implementing Entities (NIEs): the Fundecooperacion for Sustainable Development of Costa Rica, and the Agency for Agricultural Development (ADA) of Morocco.
21 November 2012: Prior to its opening, UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres said the UN Climate Change Conference in Doha, Qatar, must deliver on objectives to speed up global action towards a low-emission future where everyone has the chance of a sustainable life.
As delegates from around the world gather in Doha for the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 18/CMP 8), they will have to tackle significant political issues that remain to be resolved in the UNFCCC negotiation process. However, I hope they also keep in mind that action on the ground to address climate change is already taking place and we need to do a better job at recognizing such activities.
26 November 2012: The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has released a new report, titled "IRENA Handbook on Renewable Energy Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) for Policy Makers and Project Developers," that analyzes the role NAMAs can play in renewable energy deployment in developing countries and offers insights from case studies in Peru, Kenya and Grenada.
23 November 2012: At its 70th meeting, held from 19-23 November 2012, in Doha, Qatar, the Executive Board of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) approved a tool that project participants can utilize to describe the sustainable development co-benefits of their CDM projects.
