3 August 2009: In preparation for the intersessional informal consultations of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA), which will convene from 10-14 August 2009, in Bonn, Germany, the UNFCCC Secretariat has released the AWG-LCA scenario note.
30 July 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a notification (CAS/PART/JUL/09) for parties and observer States concerning the ninth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 9) and the seventh session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA 7), which will be held from 28 September-9 October 2009, in Bangkok, Thailand.
The tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is expected to assess achievement of the 2010 target to reduce significantly the rate of biodiversity loss, adopt an international regime on access and benefit-sharing and celebrate the International Year of Biodiversity 2010.
30 July 2009: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has published the fifth issue of its e-newsletter on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD) and biodiversity.
28 July 2009: The third UNFCCC Newsletter of the year has been published, focusing on the informal negotiations that will take place from 10-14 August 2009, in Bonn, Germany.
The theme for UNFF 9 is "forests for people, livelihoods and poverty eradication." UNFF 9 also is expected to complete consideration of the means of implementation for sustainable forest management.
24 July 2009: In an address on UN Radio, Yvo de Boer, UNFCCC Executive Secretary, said “sealing the deal” for a comprehensive global climate change agreement in Copenhagen in December hinges largely on securing the financing needed for mitigation and adaptation to help developing countries tackle global warming, as well as financial help for them to acquire “green” technology.
