6 January 2010: The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) has registered its 2,000th project, a biogas extraction and utilization project in Thailand, expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 56,000 tons annually.
6 January 2010: The UNFCCC Secretariat has modified the status of ratification regarding amendment to Annex B of the Kyoto Protocol to reflect the fact that Israel and Ukraine have deposited their instruments of acceptance of the amendment to Annex B of the Protocol.
December 2009: The West African Development Bank (BOAD) has published a report in French on its role in the future climate change regime. The report, titled "New Treaty on Climate: Copenhagen 2009, role and place of the BOAD," discusses the enhancement of the Bank's environmental policy and proposed Carbon Initiative.
16 December 2009: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has joined the Adaptation Learning Mechanism (ALM), a collaborative knowledge-sharing platform on climate change adaptation. The FAO will strengthen the agriculture component of the platform and link its existing agricultural technology database (TECA) to ALM.
15 December 2009: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) co-sponsored the Inter-Regional Workshop on Indices and Early Warning Systems for Drought, which took place at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, US, from 8-11 December 2009.
19 December 2009: The UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, took place from 7-19 December 2009, and included the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the UNFCCC and the fifth session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP 5).
December 2009: The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), Division for Sustainable Development (DSD), has prepared a policy brief titled "Ocean Acidification: A Hidden Risk for Sustainable Development."
16 December 2009: The "Development and Climate Days" meeting convened from 11-14 December 2009, alongside the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP15) in Copenhagen, Denmark. The meeting provided opportunities to share information on the negotiations and on key development and climate issues.
16 December 2009: During its 51st meeting, held from 30 November-4 December 2009, in Copenhagen, Denmark, the Executive Board (EB) of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) agreed to launch a call for experts in order to replace outgoing members of the Methodologies Panel, the Afforestation and Reforestation (A/R) Working Group, the Small Scale (SSC) Working Group and the Accreditation Panel.
15 December 2009: The Secretariats of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen joint actions to ensure that forests are sustainably managed.
