Event: CBD Sub-regional Workshop for Anglophone Africa on the Integration of Climate Change and Ecosystem-based Adaptation in NBSAPs [viewed]

Organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), with a financial contribution from the Government of Japan, this workshop is being held back-to-back with the technical workshop organized by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on ecosystem-based approaches for adaptation to climate change under the Nairobi Work Programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change, held from 21-23 March 2013, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The workshop will support the update and/or implementation of National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (NBSAP) and the development of national climate change adaptation plans.

Event: GEF Expanded Constituency Workshop (ECW) in Senegal [viewed]

The Expanded Constituency Workshop (ECW) will host discussions on priority issues, development and implementation of Global Environment Facility (GEF) projects, and project integration in national development frameworks. The event will bring together focal points from the GEF, UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), with representatives from civil society, the GEF Secretariat, and the GEF Agencies. The event will include exercises on national capacity development (NCSA), results-based management, monitoring and evaluation, synergies in project design, as well as discussions on the GEF 2020 Strategy, the new GEF Fee Policy, and Project Cycle harmonization. The registration deadline for civil society participants is 17 February 2013.

UNFCCC Partners with East African Development Bank to Promote Regional Distribution of CDM Projects [viewed]

UNFCCC12 February 2013: The Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has entered into a partnership with the East African Development Bank (EADB) to establish a regional collaboration center in Uganda, as part of efforts to improve the regional distribution of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects.

GEF SGP Projects in Namibia and Sri Lanka Highlighted by UNFCCC Momentum for Change Initiative [viewed]

11 February 2013: Climate-related projects implemented in Namibia and Sri Lanka, and supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP), were two of nine projects highlighted by the "Momentum for Change" initiative during the December 2012 UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) negotiations held in Doha, Qatar. The initiative, organized by the UNFCCC Secretariat, highlights positive developments in climate change adaptation and mitigation that have the potential to be replicated elsewhere.

UNFCCC Releases Summary on ADP Co-chairs' Special Event in Doha [viewed]

UNFCCC7 February 2013: The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat has released the summary of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) Special Event held in Doha, Qatar, on 1 December 2012, in conjunction with the second part of the first session of the ADP. The event, convened by the ADP Co-chairs Harald Dovland (Norway) and Jayant Moreshver (India), aimed to provide observer organizations with an opportunity to become involved in the ADP's work.

CBD Secretariat Calls for Nomination of Biodiversity Experts for Participation in LEG Training Workshop on Adaptation [viewed]

CBD - UNFCCC6 February 2013: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is collaborating with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to include participation of biodiversity experts in the upcoming regional training workshop on adaptation for Francophone Least Developed Countries (LDCs) of the Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG), established by the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UNFCCC.
