28 February 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18), which was held in Doha, Qatar, from 27 November-7 December 2012. The report (FCCC/CP/2012/8) contains details on the COP proceedings. The Secretariat also released addenda (FCCC/CP/2012/8/Add.1 and 2) with the decisions and action taken by COP 18.
The third meeting of the UNFCCC Standing Committee will take place on 8-10 March 2013, in Bonn, Germany. The Committee was created to assist the Conference of the Parties (COP) in exercising its functions in relation to the financial mechanism of the Convention in terms of improving coherence and coordination in the delivery of climate change financing, rationalization of the financial mechanism, mobilization of financial resources and measurement, reporting and verification of support provided to developing country parties.
25 February 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the centralized review of the 2012 annual submission of Estonia (FCCC/ARR/2012/EST), which states that total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions decreased by 49.6% between 1990 and 2010.
21 February 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has invited parties to nominate their National Designated Entities (NDEs) for the development and transfer of technologies. The deadline for sending the name of the organization and contact address or person to the UNFCCC Secretariat is 29 March 2013.
22 February 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA) on the second part of its 15th session, which was held in Doha, Qatar, from 27 November-7 December 2012.
18 February 2013: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) has announced that the Government of Denmark has provided US$4 million for the development of clean and sustainable energy in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Palau, the Marshall Islands (RMI), Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. The finance has been provided through the Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) DOCK mechanism.
The 2013 annual World Day to Combat Desertification will focus on the slogan “Don't let our future dry up.” The day is celebrated on 17 June, to mark the conclusion of negotiations on the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). This year's theme of drought and water scarcity takes into account that 2013 is also the International Year of Water Cooperation. World Day to Combat Desertification 2013 will seek to create awareness about the risks of drought and water scarcity in the drylands and beyond, and to call attention to the importance of sustaining healthy soils as part of the post-Rio+20 agenda and post-2015 development agenda.
20 February 2013: The UN General Assembly launched the International Year of Quinoa with a High-Level Panel discussion during its plenary at UN Headquarters in New York. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Bolivian President Evo Morales and First Lady of Peru Nadine Heredia participated in the launch, which will be celebrated under the theme "A future sown thousands of years ago."
February 2013: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has made available the report of the workshop on capacity building for pilot countries on the implementation of synergies among the Rio Conventions.
18 February 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a note by the Co-chairs of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP). The note provides the Co-chairs' reflections on the status of the ADP's work after Doha and is aimed at assisting parties in their preparations for the next ADP session, to be held from 29 April - 3 May 2013, in Bonn, Germany.
