5 January 2012: Elizabeth Mrema, Executive Secretary of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), was appointed Deputy Director of the Division of Environmental Policy Implementation (DEPI) at the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), as of 9 January 2012. Mrema announced her decision to step down as Executive Secretary at the 38th meeting of the CMS Standing Committee and the most recent Conference of the Parties to the CMS (COP 10).
