23 May 2008: Delegates to the ninth session of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, meeting in Bonn, Germany, considered the CBD's Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological (SBSTTA) recommendations on biodiversity and climate change (recommendations XII/5 and XIII/6) on Friday, 23 May 2008. European Commission: Biodiversity and Climate Change Side Event [viewed]

Biodiversity Loss Affects Human Health - Study [viewed]

24 April 2008: According to a new book, a new generation of medical treatments may be lost unless the current rate of biodiversity loss is reversed. The book, Sustaining Life: How Human Health Depends on Biodiversity, was supported by UNEP, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the UN Development Programme and IUCN, and was edited and written by Eric Chivian and Aaron Bernstein, from Harvard Medical School, along with more than 100 contributing scientists.

CBD Executive Secretary outlines cooperation on climate change with Ramsar [viewed]

In a statement on World Wetlands Day, the Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), Ahmed Djoghlaf, highlighted that the CBD Secretariat is cooperating with the Ramsar Secretariat for the CBD COP-9 review of opportunities for further action to support the conservation and sustainable use of the biodiversity of wetlands in relation to climate change.
