8 October 2012: The 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 11) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) opened on 8 October 2012, in Hyderabad, India, directly following the sixth Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. The two-week meeting will address a series of cross-cutting and ecosystem-related issues, as well as financial, administrative and implementation-related topics.

September 2012: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has published a study examining technical and regulatory matters on geoengineering in relation to the CBD. Circulated as CBD Technical Series No. 66, the study finds that there is no satisfactory climate geoengineering approach currently available, and that international law provides an incomplete basis for the governance of geoengineering.
August 2012: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has released the July-August issue of its "REDD+ & Biodiversity E-Newsletter." The newsletter aims to inform CBD National Focal Points and CBD partners about biodiversity aspects in relation to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, and conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks (REDD+).
The Global Environment Facility (GEF) is holding a civil society organizations (CSO) regional meeting and Expanded Constituency Workshop (ECW) for Southern Africa. The agenda will focus on enhancing civil society participation in GEF, as well as enhancing indigenous peoples participation in GEF activities.
22 June 2012: The Rio Conventions Pavilion at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) convened for City Day, on 22 June 2012. The event included three panel events on: local leadership driving global change; cities spurring change - tools and techniques for integrated urban planning; and a sustainable future for our children - the FRUSATO movement. A closing session addressed lessons learned and next steps following Rio+20.
