CBD Secretariat Invites Nominations for LAC REDD+ Workshop [viewed]

8 April 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is seeking nominations for a Latin America and Caribbean regional consultation and capacity building workshop on REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, as well as the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks), including on relevant biodiversity safeguards.

Event: CBD Latin America and Caribbean Capacity-Building Workshop on REDD-Plus Including Relevant Biodiversity Safeguards [viewed]

Organized by the CBD Secretariat in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment of Ecuador and with financial support from the Government of Japan and the UN-REDD Programme, the purpose of this workshop is to consult with parties on the development of advice on relevant biodiversity safeguards, so that REDD-plus actions are consistent with the objectives of the CBD and avoid negative impacts on and enhance benefits for biodiversity.

Event: CBD Sub-regional Capacity-building Workshop for West Africa on Implementation of the Programme of Work on Protected Areas [viewed]

The objective of the workshop is to build capacity to: create a national action plan for implementation of the Programme of Work on Protected Areas; access funding based on these action plans; and strengthen implementation of the Programme of Work on the themes of governance, climate change (including integrating protected areas into the wider land and seascape), sustainable financing, and valuation of the costs and benefits of protected areas, with a focus on marine protected areas where applicable.

CBD, IPCC Invite Contributions for AR5 on Biodiversity and Climate Change [viewed]

16 March 2011: The Secretariats of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) have issued a joint notification inviting CBD National Focal Points and focal points for the CBD's Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA) to contribute to and review chapters of its Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) related to biodiversity and climate change, to be completed in 2014.
