The side event, titled 'Building a Common Indicator on Land-Based Adaptation for Reporting on the Rio Conventions,' was co-convened with the Governments of Costa Rica, France, Morocco, Myanmar, Panama and Senegal on the sidelines of the Lima Climate Change Conference.

Scientists Call for Recognition of Biodiversity in Climate Negotiations [viewed]

cbd-iai5 December 2014: A declaration prepared by a group of scientists calls for better integration of biodiversity concerns into climate change politics and negotiations. Scientists and policymakers presented the declaration to Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, Peru's Environment Minister and president of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCCC. The declaration asks climate change policymakers to take biodiversity into account while also recognizing the role scientists must play in providing timely information to policymakers.

The message presents a five-year roadmap that addresses five priorities: building resilience to climate change; addressing biodiversity loss; developing a green and blue economy; advancing research; and facilitating access to resources.

UNEP, Partners Offset CBD COP 12 Emissions [viewed]

unep-cbd7 October 2014: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), together with several partners, has launched an initiative aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of the 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 12) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). A dedicated ‘Carbon Offsetting Fund' will operate though 17 October, seeking to encourage conference participants, as well as the general public, to offset their emissions resulting from the event.

CBD Secretariat Releases Synthesis of Ocean Acidification Research [viewed]

CBD8 October 2014: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has compiled recent research on ocean acidification into its Technical Series No. 75, titled 'An Updated Synthesis of the Impacts of Ocean Acidification on Marine Biodiversity.' The report synthesizes the best available knowledge on acidification, explaining that while the globe has experienced acidification before, the changes happening today are occurring faster than at any time in at least the last 66 million years.

Meetings of the CBD and its Protocols Open in Pyeongchang [viewed]

CBD29 September 2014: The seventh Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (Cartagena Protocol COP/MOP 7) has opened in Pyeongchang, the Republic of Korea. It will be followed by the twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP 12), which will run from 6-17 October 2014, also in Pyeongchang, and the first Meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) (NP COP/MOP 1), which will be held during the second week of CBD COP 12, from 13-17 October 2014.
