8 December 2009: The World Bank has released a publication titled "10 Years of Experience in Carbon Finance - Insights from working with carbon markets for development & global greenhouse gas mitigation," which provides an overview of the Bank's experience of working with the Kyoto Protocol's flexibility mechanisms, namely the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Joint Implementation (JI).
8 December 2009: The UN Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank, IUCN, The Nature Conservancy, Wildlife Conservation and WWF have released a report titled "Natural Solutions: protected areas helping people cope with climate change."
2 December 2009: A World Bank poll carried out in 15 countries shows the majority of people think their country has a responsibility in taking steps to deal with climate change.
2 December 2009: The Heads of the Multilateral Development Banks and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) appealed in a joint statement to the parties to the UNFCCC to agree in Copenhagen on the foundations for an ambitious, comprehensive and equitable global climate change regime that enables all countries to achieve sustainable development along climate-resilient and low greenhouse gas emission-intensive paths.
18 November 2009: Robert Zoellick, World Bank President, stated that indigenous peoples carry a “disproportionate share of the burden of climate change effects” during a roundtable on Indigenous Peoples and Climate Change, organized by the World Bank and First Peoples Worldwide, in Washington DC, US.
17 November 2009: The World Bank, as trustee for the Adaptation Fund, has begun regular sales of certified emission reductions (CERs) through the BlueNext Exchange.
16 November 2009: The self-selection process for non-profit civil society observers on two sub-committees of the Climate Investment Fund's (CIF) Strategic Climate Fund – the Forest Investment Program (FIP) and the Scaling up Renewable Energy Program in Local Income Countries (SREP) – is accepting nominations to participate as observers during CIF meetings and to register to vote on the nominees.
13 November 2009: The World Bank awarded close to US$5 million to 26 innovative climate adaptation projects, through a contest for community-based ideas to tackle the effects of climate change.
11 November 2009: The Climate Investment Fund (CIF) has called for nominations of experts to serve on the Expert Group for the Forest Investment Program (FIP), to work on the selection of country or regional pilots for the FIP.
29 October 2009: The World Bank office in Russia hosted the virtual launch of a report on Adapting to Climate Change in Europe and Central Asia. The report highlights that, contrary to popular perception, the region faces a substantial threat from climate change, with a number of the most serious risks already in evidence.
