The Fifth Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD V) is being convened under the theme "Hand in Hand for a More Dynamic Africa". Discussions are expected to be focused around four main topics: economic growth; achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs); consolidation of peace/ good governance; and climate change. TICAD V is organized by Government of Japan, the UN Office of the Special Advisor to Africa, the World Bank, and the African Union (AU).

World Bank Report Addresses Deforestation Drivers in the Congo Basin [viewed]

FCPF Reports on the Engagement of Indigenous Peoples [viewed]

Connect4Climate Recognizes 19 Young Climate Activists [viewed]

1 March 2013: The World Bank has announced that 19 awards were granted to young individuals from 14 countries as part of the Voices4Climate competition, which was organized by the Connect4Climate in collaboration with MTV and TerrAfrica. The competition selected photographs, videos, videos, and music about climate change.

World Bank Grants "Green Team" Award to Great Green Wall Initiative [viewed]

World Bank Assesses Impacts of Climate Change on Coastal Wetlands [viewed]

World Bank1 March 2013: The World Bank has released a study titled "Sea-level rise and coastal wetlands: impacts and costs," which warns that a one-meter rise in sea levels from climate change could destroy over 60% of the developing world's coastal wetlands currently found at one meter or less elevation.  This scenario could provoke economic losses of around $630 million per year.

Event: Right Here Right Now [viewed]

The Connect4Climate event "Right Here Right Now" aims to celebrate youth's engagement in climate change action. With a keynote address by World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, the event will launch the Africa charity CD, "C4C special edition Rhythms del Mundo," which features live performances by Kenyan rappers TS1, award-winning Malian musician Rokia Traore, and a live DJ set by MTVs Izzy Lawrence. Other event participants include: Sustainable Development Network Vice President Rachel Kyte; External Affairs Vice President Cyril Muller; Africa Vice President Makhtar Diop; Global Environment Facility (GEF) CEO and Chairperson Naoko Ishii; Italian Minister of the Environment Corrado Clini; and Nobel Prize Laureate Betty Williams. Launched by the World Bank, the Italian Ministry of Environment, and the GEF in collaboration with over 150 knowledge partners in September 2011, Connect4Climate (C4C) is a global partnership programme dedicated to climate change communication.
