15 August 2012: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has released an updated Country Environmental Analysis of China, titled “Toward an Environmentally Sustainable Future.” The 225-page report details the environmental achievements of China over the last five years, and current challenges including water pollution, water scarcity, and solid waste.
14 August 2012: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced it is assisting China in developing a carbon capture and storage (CCS) roadmap. The roadmap is intended to assist the country in achieving its carbon dioxide emission reduction goals.
The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) are co-hosting the CIF 2012 Partnership Forum, on 6-7 November 2012, as well as associated meetings. The Forum will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to deepening global understanding of the linkages between climate change and development as they have been addressed within the context of the CIF. The Forum will be preceded by Pilot Country meetings for all CIF programs (the Clean Technology Fund, the Forest Investment Program, the Pilot Program for Climate Resilience, and the Program for Scaling-Up Renewable Energy in Low Income Countries), from 30 October-1 November, and a Private Sector Forum, on 5 November.
9 August 2012: The African Water Facility (AWF), through the African Development Bank (AfDB), has awarded a €690,000 grant to support the Kenya Rainwater Association in implementing a pilot programme aimed at increasing drought resilience and climate change adaptation, using integrated rainwater harvesting management (IRHM).
7 August 2012: The African Development Bank (AfDB) has released a report, titled "Unlocking North Africa's Regional Potential Through Regional Integration - Challenges and Opportunities," which highlights opportunities presented by regional integration to promote a new, inclusive and sustainable growth model.
The third Asian Development Bank (ADB) Transport Forum will convene under the theme "Inclusive and Sustainable Transport". The Forum aims to provide the opportunity to discuss and debate the most critical issues currently facing transport in the Asia Pacific region. Sessions will address, inter alia, urban transport, road safety, green freight and transport technologies, climate change resilience, mode choice, socially inclusive transport, road asset management, and cross-border transport.
27 July 2012: The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced that it is providing a €152 million sovereign loan to finance a fast and low-carbon public transport solution in Ukraine.
20 July 2012: The African Development Bank's (AfDB) Board of Directors has approved a €57.5 million loan in support of the Coder Hydropower Project in Gabon. The two planned hydropower projects will produce an additional 122 MW of renewable energy and save 530,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
12 July 2012: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) approved a US$ 800,000 project to support carbon market projects in Mexico.
29 June 2012: The Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change (PACC) project has provided funding and support for Solomon Islands' launch of its National Climate Change Policy 2012-2017. The Policy, launched on 29 June 2012, identifies the policy roles of different institutions, enhances coordination of climate change work both at the local and national levels, and provides opportunities for cooperation between the government and other non-state actors.
