The guidance focuses on answering questions faced by city planners and managers, including: what changes might be caused by climate change?; how will these affect services and utilities?; and what can we do now to prepare for them?

Green Climate Fund Selects First Executive Director [viewed]

Green Climate Fund (GCF)30 June 2013: During a recent meeting of the Board of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), which took place from 25-28 June 2013, in Songdo, Republic of Korea, the Board selected by consensus Hela Cheikhrouhou (Tunisia) as its first Executive Director, to lead the independent Secretariat of the Fund. Other aspects for the operationalization of the Fund were also considered.

World Bank Increases Resilience of Coastal Population in Bangladesh [viewed]

World Bank Outlines Benefits of Climate Action [viewed]

World Bank25 June 2013: Noting that the world is heading towards an increase in average temperature of 4° Celsius by the end of the century, a World Bank report titled 'Growing Green: The Economic Benefits of Climate Action' highlights three strategic areas of investment – energy efficiency, cleaner energy and improved natural resource management – to promote green growth and climate change resilience, particularly in the Europe and Central Asia (ECA) region.

Event: 21st Meeting of the Adaptation Fund Board [viewed]

The Board of the Adaptation Fund will meet from 3-4 July 2013, in Bonn, Germany. Issues to be considered include the report of the 12th meeting of the Project and Programme Review Committee; the report of the 12th meeting of the Ethics and Finance Committee; objectives and further steps of the Fund; environmental and social safeguards; and financial issues. The Adaptation Fund has been established by the parties to the Kyoto Protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change to finance concrete adaptation projects and programmes in developing countries that are parties to the Kyoto Protocol and are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change.

Event: 46th GEF Council Meeting and GEF Assembly [viewed]

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Assembly will be held back-to-back with the 46th GEF Council meeting in Mexico. A report on the host city, Cancún, was considered at the 45th Council meeting in November 2013. The CSO Consultation, GEF Council and LDCF/SCCF Council Meetings will convene from 25-27 May, with the Council meeting beginning on 25 May and overlapping for half a day, on 27 May, with the CSO Consultation. The Assembly will convene from 28-30 May. All 183 member nations, including South Sudan – the GEF's newest member – will gather for the Assembly. The GEF Council meets twice a year, while the Assembly meets every four years to take major decisions, including endorsement of the next four-year GEF replenishment package.

LDC Fund, Special Climate Change Fund Receive $198 Million in New Pledges [viewed]

20gef44 June 2013: The 14th meeting of the Adaptation to Climate Change for the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) and the Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF) Council adopted decisions on, inter alia: the joint work program for the LDCF/SCCF; and the administrative budgets of the Funds. The Funds were bolstered by additional pledges, amounting to US$129 million for the LDCF and US$69.2 million for the SCCF.

44th GEF Council Meeting Approves US$369.82 Million Work Program [viewed]
