SIDS DOCK Meeting Discusses Energy Issues for AIMS [viewed]

sidsdock1 August 2013: The Small Island Developing States (SIDS) DOCK project held its first meeting for the Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean, and South China Sea (AIMS) region, the final meeting in a series of regional SIDS DOCK meetings. The meeting agreed upon and finalized discussions on programmatic and operational issues including climate, energy and water and financing mechanisms in SIDS.

World Bank Promotes Participatory Sustainable Forest Management in Lao PDR [viewed]

world-bank_cif8 August 2013: The World Bank and the Government of Lao PDR have signed a US$31.83 million grant for the Scaling-Up Participatory Sustainable Forest Management (SUPSFM) project, which aims to support REDD+ activities through greater community participation in forest management, particularly in the four northern provinces of Xaiyaboury, Luang Namtha, Oudomxay and Bokeo.

Event: Fourth Workshop on Enhancing the Regional Distribution of CDM Projects in Asia and the Pacific [viewed]

The Fourth Workshop on Enhancing the Regional Distribution of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Projects in Asia and the Pacific will convene from 4-5 September 2013, in Manila, the Philippines, and is hosted by the UNFCCC Secretariat, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). Project developers, CDM consultants, and designated national authorities (DNAs) are expected to attend the workshop. A DNA training for Asia, the Pacific and Eastern Europe will be held immediately prior to the workshop on 2-3 September 2013 at the same venue.

Caribbean Workshop Examines Potential NAMAs in Agriculture and Energy [viewed]

Event: International Forum on Enhancing Resilience to Disasters in Latin America [viewed]

The UN Institute for Training and Research's (UNITAR) Local Development Programme and the Latin American Development Bank (CAF), with support from Chile's Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning (MINVU), are organizing this Forum to help build an international platform to exchange knowledge and best practices in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and improving the resilience of cities in Latin America. The Forum also will discuss the development of action plans for implementation and local cooperation, using lessons learned from Japan, Chile, and other Latin American countries.

ADB Releases Review of Stakeholder Participation in Climate Investment Funds [viewed]

ADB29 July 2013: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has released the second edition of its publication titled 'Stakeholder Engagement in Preparing Investments Plans for the Climate Investment Funds,' which uses a case-study approach to examine how stakeholder engagement was carried out in the preparation of investment plans in Cambodia, Indonesia, Nepal, and the Philippines, with reference to the guidance provided by ADB and the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) on stakeholder participation.

World Bank Launches Access and Emissions-Focused Energy Investment Strategy [viewed]

World Bank16 July 2013: The World Bank's recently published energy sector direction paper has gained support of the Bank's Executive Board and will inform investments and activities in future. The new strategy is aligned with the UN Secretary-General's Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative and will see the Bank cease investment in coal power except in rare circumstances.
