19 June 2009: The Asian Development Bank's (ADB) High-Level Dialogue on Climate Change in Asia and the Pacific, which took place on 16-17 June 2009, in Manila, the Philippines, highlighted the special stake and role of Asian and Pacific countries in solving the climate crisis.
18 June 2009: The World Bank approved a US$180 million loan to the Government of India, to renovate and modernize old, inefficient and polluting coal-fired power plants. The project, which is expected to lower carbon emissions and boost power production at these plants, is co-financed with a US$45.4 million grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
June 2009: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) published a report on “Understanding and Responding to Climate Change in Developing Asia.”
17 June 2009: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) selected the theme “Conserving land and water = Securing our common future” for the 17 June celebration of World Day to Combat Desertification.
16 June 2009: In a video message to the High-Level Dialogue: Climate Change in Asia and the Pacific, which was organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila, the Philippines, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon recalled that 2009 is the year of climate change and listed its impacts in the Asian region, including shrinking glaciers that threaten water supplies and food security, rising sea levels, desertification and land degradation.
15 June 2009: The application process has been opened in the self-selection process of civil society, indigenous peoples and business representatives to participate as observers in the World Bank's recently created Climate Investment Funds.
June 2009: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) has posted a number of documents on its website, including: a proposed GEF adaptation strategy for 2010-1014 featuring innovative features for the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) and Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF); the interim report of the Fourth GEF Overall Performance Study (OPS4); and a report on the implementation of the Resource Allocation Framework (RAF).
12 June 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat organized a panel on intellectual property rights (IPRs) and technology transfer (TT), at a side event held during the climate change talks, in Bonn, Germany.
10 June 2009: The UN University's Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), CARE International and Columbia University's Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) launched a report titled “In Search of Shelter: Mapping the Effects of Climate Change on Human Migration and Displacement” during the Bonn climate change talks.
June 2009: The World Bank has published a booklet titled “Development and Climate Change: The World Bank Group at Work,” which provides an overview of its activities related to climate change, including sections on partnerships, strategy, finance, knowledge and capacity.
