IISD's Knowledge Management
This meeting, organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), World Bank, UN-REDD Programme and Chatham House, aims to encourage coordinated monitoring and assessment of REDD+ and forest governance. It will mark the joint launch of two new tools to assist practitioners: the Guidance Framework for Monitoring REDD+ Governance developed by UN-REDD and Chatham House; and the Framework for Assessing and Monitoring Forest Governance emerging from the 2010 Stockholm meeting on forest governance led by the World Bank and FAO. Working sessions will be organised to enable a discussion of piloting processes, identify key points to test and consider the governance monitoring needs of different stakeholders (governments, private sector, local communities, etc.).
8 April 2011: The Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) has partnered with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) to help the latter implement in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) its "Global Solar Water Heating Market Transformation and Strengthening Initiative," which is funded in part by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
25 March 2011: Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) President Luis Alberto Moreno has announced the creation of a platform to work with 140 fast-growing "intermediate" cities (those with populations between 100,000 and two million) in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), to analyze their sustainable urban development challenges, propose solutions, prioritize investments and identify funding from national and international sources.
This will be the first webinar of the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) Webinar Series. Presentations will be given by representatives of key institutions responsible for the management and operations of the CIF to provide participants with a clear and detailed introduction to the CIF's mission, objectives, governance, and operations, following which representatives from CIF pilot countries will provide their perspectives on working with the CIF to finance their countries' low-carbon and climate-resilient investment priorities. Finally the online and in-person audience will have an opportunity to engage with the speakers in a Q&A session.
13 April 2011: The World Bank approved a Global Environment Facility (GEF) project to demonstrate the local and environmental benefits of green truck technology to over 500,000 truck operators in the Guandong Province of China.
March 2011: The World Bank Institute (WBI), the Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) and the Costa Rica-based INCAE Business School, supported by the International Climate Initiative (ICI) of the German Ministry of the Environment, have launched the Mitigation Action Implementation Network (MAIN) for Latin America.
Event: World Bank Writing Meeting for Report on Adaptation to a Changing Climate in Arab Countries [viewed]
The World Bank Middle East and North Africa Region (MENA) is developing a regional Climate Change Flagship Report, "Adaptation to a Changing Climate in the Arab Countries." A writing meeting will be held to prepare the First Draft of the Report ready for formal public review. Preferences will be given to early career professionals and to engaging new contributors from the full geographic range of the Arab region.
March 2011: The March 2011 edition of the World Bank Institute Climate Change (WBICC) Practice e-Bulletin presents news of the launch of a climate practitioner network in Latin America, and training of youth in Kenya to become agents of change and to implement youth-focused climate change-development activities within their communities.
