Event: Least Developed Countries Training Workshop on Implementing National Adaptation Programmes of Action (NAPAs) [viewed]

This is the fourth of a series of five training workshops organized by the Least Developed Countries Group (LEG) in collaboration with the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and its agencies. The workshop is targeting Lusophone LDCs and one recently graduated Lusophone LDCs, comprising in total five parties to the UNFCCC. The workshop and materials will be entirely in Portuguese. The training aims to: provide technical support to Least Developed Country (LDC) teams in the design of an implementation strategy for the NAPAs, and to build capacity of these teams in the preparation and submission of project documents to the GEF under the LDF Fund (LDCF); and, where needed, to provide technical support to those LDC parties that are still preparing their NAPAs.

World Bank, GEF Support Eco-City Project in China [viewed]

22 July 2010: The World Bank has approved a US$6.16 Global Environment Facility (GEF) grant to support the Sino-Singapore Eco-City Project (SSTECP) in Tianjin, China, an area of 34.2 square kilometers that is designed to become a model of energy and resource efficiency while maintaining economic viability and social harmony.

UNDP Publishes Guidebook on Gender and Community-Based Adaptation [viewed]

July 2010: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has released a guidebook titled "Gender, Climate Change, and Community-Based Adaptation," which aims to ensure that community-based adaptation projects contribute to the achievement of gender equality and women's empowerment by integrating a gendered perspective into programming and project design.

UNDP Finalizes Project to Protect Mountain Forests in Tanzania [viewed]

20 July 2010: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Tanzania have successfully concluded a seven-year project, financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), aimed to protect the biodiversity of forestland of the Eastern Arc reserve in Tanzania, 70% of which had been destroyed due to crop shifting and timber harvesting.

GEF Publishes Brief on Financing for Sustainable Forest Management and REDD+ [viewed]

UNDP and Botswana Promote Solar Energy [viewed]

Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Centre Opens in West Africa [viewed]

6 July 2010: A new regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) opened in Praia, Cape Verde, on 6 July. The Centre is supported by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Governments of Austria, Cape Verde and Spain, as well as through a special partnership between Brazil and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

June 2010: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the report (FCCC/SBI/2010/INF.2) of the first meeting of the reconstituted Consultative Group of Experts on National Communications from parties not included in Annex I to the Convention (CGE), which took place in Bonn, Germany, from 29- 31 March 2010.
