Report of the 15th Adaptation Fund Board Meeting Released [viewed]

Adaptation Fund14 November 2011: The Adaptation Fund has released the report of the 15th meeting of the Adaptation Fund Board (AFB), which was held from 15-16 September 2011, in Bonn, Germany. At the meeting, the AFB discussed issues related to accreditation of Regional Implementing Entities (RIE) and National Implementing Entities (NIE), as well as the application of a cap on funding for projects proposed by Multilateral Implementing Entities (MIE).

GEF Council Evaluates Reducing Fees, Discusses Private Sector Engagement [viewed]

10 November 2011: During its 41st meeting, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council approved its work programme for the next year and initiated the search for a new CEO. The work programme includes 40 project concepts and nine programmatic approaches, including 11 for the biodiversity focal area, eight on climate change, two on international waters, 23 on land degradation, and five on persistent organic pollutants (POPs).

GEF Council, LDCF and SCCF Approve Projects on Climate Change and Blue Carbon [viewed]

10 November 2011: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council, at its 41st Council Meeting, approved decisions on the administration of the GEF as well as a work programme of 40 stand-alone projects and nine programmatic approaches amounting to US$516.40 million, including several climate change and energy-related projects. Projects were also approved within the Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF) and Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF).

GEF, IFC to Support Climate Change Mitigation Business Models [viewed]

20 October 2011: The International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, will launch a US$60 million financial mechanism to support alternative business models for climate change mitigation in developing countries, providing companies with strategies and tools to provide products and services aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Event: Sixth GEF Biennial International Waters Conference [viewed]

This conference will be organized under the theme "Raising the Bar: 20 Years of GEF Transboundary Water Results," and will focus on knowledge sharing on water management issues and results after 20 years of interventions. The Conference also has the objective to promote public-private partnerships in support of better water management and identification of modalities for their development. Essential focus areas include sustaining a global effort in providing robust, periodic assessments of the state of the marine environment to address emerging issues, such as ocean acidification; addressing the particular vulnerabilities of small island developing States (SIDS); and restoring habitat and biodiversity values.
