Event: Sixth GEF Biennial International Waters Conference [viewed]

This conference will be organized under the theme "Raising the Bar: 20 Years of GEF Transboundary Water Results," and will focus on knowledge sharing on water management issues and results after 20 years of interventions. The Conference also has the objective to promote public-private partnerships in support of better water management and identification of modalities for their development. Essential focus areas include sustaining a global effort in providing robust, periodic assessments of the state of the marine environment to address emerging issues, such as ocean acidification; addressing the particular vulnerabilities of small island developing States (SIDS); and restoring habitat and biodiversity values.

GEF, UNCCD Publish Book on Sustainable Land Management Projects [viewed]

October 2011: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) and UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Secretariats have jointly published a book on sustainable land management (SLM) projects, highlighting the impact of many of these projects in achieving SLM, as well as experiences and lessons learned.

IDB Finances Public Transport Infrastructure in Colombian Cities [viewed]

IDB15 September 2011: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved US$320 million in loans to Colombia for the development of public transport system in four cities, focusing on improving public transport and shortening circulation times of public vehicles, thus cutting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, expected to benefit 800,000 passengers daily.
