Event: GEF Expanded Constituency Workshop for Central Asia [viewed]

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) will hold an Expanded Constituency Workshop (ECW) for Central Asia, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and the Russian Federation as part of the GEF Country Support Programme. The workshop will bring together representatives from civil society, the GEF Secretariat, and GEF Agencies, as well as focal points from the biodiversity, desertification, climate change, and chemical conventions to explain and discuss GEF support for environment-related activities.

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) is holding an Expanded Constituency Workshop (ECW) for West Africa, as part of the GEF Country Support Programme, including participants from Benin, Cote D'Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra leone, Guinea and Togo. The workshop will bring together representatives from civil society, the GEF Secretariat and GEF Agencies, with focal points of the biodiversity, desertification, climate change, and chemicals conventions to discuss activities with global environmental benefits. The Global Environment Facility (GEF) is holding an Expanded Constituency Workshop (ECW) for Southern Africa as part of the GEF Country Support Programme. The workshop will invite focal points from the biodiversity, desertification, climate change, and chemical conventions to meet with representatives from civil society, the GEF Secretariat and GEF Agencies. Participants are expected from Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

Joint Investment Brings Electricity to Rural Communities in Nicaragua [viewed]

13 July 2012: Nicaragua has inaugurated a small hydropower plant to bring electricity to 3,000 people in 533 households in eight rural communities. The plant was financed and built with support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the Energy and Environment Partnership for Central America (EEP) and others.

PACC Supports Launch of Solomon Islands' Climate Change Policy [viewed]

29 June 2012: The Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change (PACC) project has provided funding and support for Solomon Islands' launch of its National Climate Change Policy 2012-2017. The Policy, launched on 29 June 2012, identifies the policy roles of different institutions, enhances coordination of climate change work both at the local and national levels, and provides opportunities for cooperation between the government and other non-state actors.

en.Lighten Initiative Installs Solar LED Streetlights in Nairobi [viewed]

5 July 2012: The en.lighten initiative of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and Global Environment Facility (GEF) has installed eight solar LED street lights along UN Avenue in Nairobi, Kenya. Undertaken in partnership with Phillips and the Kenyan Urban Roads Authority, the pilot initiative aims to highlight the benefits of sustainable energy sources and alternatives to expensive, less efficient traditional lighting.
