Adaptation Fund Board Releases Report from 18th Meeting [viewed]

Adaptation Fund16 August 2012: At its 18th Meeting, the Adaptation Fund Board (AFB) accredited the National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development of India as the National Implementing Entity (NIE) for India, and as its 12th NIE. The Board also approved grants for $50.7 million in seven countries, including one direct access project in Jamaica.

August 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) Project has released a guidebook, titled “Accessing International Financing for Climate Change Mitigation.” The guidebook aims to assist developing countries in speeding up the transfer, deployment and diffusion of mitigation technologies, thereby enabling countries to contribute to climate change mitigation and reduce climate change impacts while pursuing national development goals.

The ECWs bring together GEF focal points, focal points from the main conventions (biodiversity, desertification, climate change and persistent organic pollutants), representatives from civil society and representatives from the GEF Secretariat and the GEF Agencies, to discuss priority issues and share lessons and experiences from the development and implementation of GEF projects and their integration within national policy frameworks. Countries eligible to participate in this Expanded Constituency Workshop for Asia are: Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka and China.

Event: Great Green Wall for the Sahara and the Sahel Initiative [viewed]

This side event to the 3rd World Forest Week will be an opportunity to: present the outcomes and results of the Great Green Wall for the Sahara and the Sahel Initiative (GGWSSI) African Union (AU) Commission projects supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the EU and the Global Mechanism-UN Convention to Combat Desertification (GM-UNCCD) in 13 countries; and showcase the use of landscape and inter-sectoral approaches and partnerships to support the effective planning and implementation of the GGWSI.
