23 March 2012: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) has approved its first two projects, in Togo and Azerbaijan, under the sustainable forest management (SFM) and reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, as well as conservation, sustainable management of forests, and enhancement of carbon stocks (REDD+) window approved as a result of the GEF's fifth replenishment.
The Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) will hold its next meeting in conjunction with the Planet Under Pressure Conference. At its meeting, STAP will seek to address the following objectives, among other tasks: define new additions to its work programme, drawing conclusions in part from the Planet Under Pressure Conference; present and discuss preliminary findings from its review of the GEF targeted research policy; and prepare for the fifth overall performance study of the GEF.

19 March 2012: On the margins of the the first round of “informal-informal” consultations on the zero draft of the outcome document for Rio+20, the Secretariat of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) organized a side-event highlighting the importance of the Rio Conventions Pavilion (Rio Pavilion) as a mechanism for emphasizing the synergies among the Rio Conventions.
