CIFOR Publishes Book on National Strategies for REDD+ [viewed]

March 2010: The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), a member organization of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR),  has published a book titled "Realizing REDD+: National Strategy and Policy Options." The book draws lessons from national experiences to inform strategies and policies for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, conservation, sustainable forest management and enhancement of forest carbon stocks (REDD+).

Event: Global Forum on Sustainable Energy (GFSE-9) [viewed]

This event was postponed, due to travel disruptions. It was to take place back-to-back with the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP), to continue energy integration and development discussions begun at the high-level events of the previous days, but with different participants. The GFSE-9 will bring together various stakeholders from science, industry, NGOs, UN organizations and development finance institutions to discuss common challenges and possible solutions for sustainable energy in Europe and Africa in an open format.

Event: First High-Level Meeting of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) [viewed]

This high-level portion of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) meeting will bring together Commissioners of the European and African Unions, ministers responsible for energy issues, and others, to reinforce and promote energy cooperation and interconnectedness of Africa and Europe. A roadmap is expected to be endorsed at the meeting, which will outline implementation of future AEEP action and concrete political goals.

IFPRI Releases Papers on Climate Change Impacts in Ethiopia and Southern Africa [viewed]

April 2010: The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) has released two discussion papers on: climate change impacts on the hydrology and irrigation of the Limpopo River Basin of Southern Africa; and the impact of changing precipitation patterns on crop production in Ethiopia.

German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel will open this informal meeting, which she announced during the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference. Around 45 countries are expected to participate in the Dialogue.

RRI Dialogue Addresses REDD Issues [viewed]

7 April 2010: The fourth Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI) Dialogue on Forests Governance and Climate Change took place on 6 April 2010, in London, UK, and was attended by representatives of over 20 countries. Two sessions took place in the morning, addressing: perspectives on the reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, plus conservation (REDD+) process, architecture, standards and role of non-governmental actors; and issues, options and recommended principles and criteria for proposed interim and global REDD+ architectures.
